Ferry to Virgin Gorda

Post by seagrape »

Hi All. Wanting to visit VG before we get to STJ this summer. I took a direct ferry from STJ a long time ago, so we were hoping there was a direct return. Anyone here have knowledge about what days they may run? Do we have to go through Tortola from Charlotte Amalie on the arrival?

Thanks!

I think they operate Thursdays and Sundays. We have used it a Sunday. From St John the only stop is Sopers hole for customs. On the way back I don't think you need to stop anywhere before St John as there is customs there. I think the ferry originates in Charlotte Amalie, so it goes there after STJ (and before on the way to VG of course).

A good site with schedules and FAQ of the ferrys within the Virgin islands can be found here:

I went this past Thursday (Thanksgiving) from STJ. The ferry is direct from STJ and stops at West End Tortolla as some of the passengers were going there. You do not have to go through Customs until you arrive in VG. It was a nice day at the Baths, no question. The ferry ride is roughly 90 mins to 2 hrs depending on the return. We stopped at West End and picked up quite a few passengers going to STJ or onto STT, mostly locals. The cost was $80 RT and the ride was beatiful on the top of the ferry.
