Off Topic Trip Report: Disney World with 3 generations
We spent 5 days over Columbus week at the Polynesian in Disney World. My brother and his wife were bringing their 2 daughters age 9 and 6 along with another family with 2 girls the same age. I went down sans husband and kids and brought my Mom who needed some r&r as she is the sole care provider for her husband who has Alzheimer's that is getting progressively worse.
The Polynesian is looking a bit dated. The decor is very dark which is not my taste so that could just be my personal preference. Others loved it. The bedding was not all that comfortable. I would have expected better for the price. We spent the night before at a Marriott (my favorite moderate price hotel chain) which beats them for comfort hands down.
That is the ONLY negative I can say about the trip. Polynesian is in a great location- easy for getting to Magic Kingdom which was a big plus with the kids ages. The last time I was in Disney my boys were 7, so it was a totally different trip. Lots of running around and tired, hot kids as we went in June. Going in October was terrific. The weather was perfect- 80 and no humidity. My Mom and I would enjoy the parks until 3 ish with the kids and then usually find a quiet spot for an adult refreshment and people watching. One evening, we bar hopped on the Monorail. We had an appetizer and cocktail at each lounge and ended up at the California Grill observation deck to watch the fireworks over Magic Kingdom. We did 2 days just hanging by the pool. It was great to have such down time. Something I never had in previous Disney trips.
I would consider going back with my boys now that they are teens. I think they would really love the freedom of being able to ride on all the rides they want. They could also have some "teen time" and DH and I could enjoy some adult time. Restaurants were very good. We especially enjoyed Citrico's in the Grand Floridian. They made a phenomenal appetizer of Sauteed Shrimp with garlic, tomatoes, feta and cilantro. The chef shared the recipe with us and I made it last week. But it also explained why my scampi is never as good as the restaurants. This recipe call for 2 sticks of butter to serve 4 to 6.

I haven't stayed at the Polynesian since the 80s! I loved taking out the water racers there.
Sounds like you had a fun and relaxing time with your family. I will have to check out Citricos' menu. I haven't eaten there for at least four years.

Sounds fun! We did the 3 generations thing too last summer- my parents, our kids (now 10 and 6), and us. Stayed at the Grand Floridian- loved the convenience. Have wanted to stay at Polynesian- thanks for the review. It was pretty hot when we went (August ) but still really fun- e are looking forward to going back hopefully in the next few years. We stayed at the Poly on our honeymoon and are dying to get back...of course that means we'll have to go back to WDW and we're not sure we want to. We have a plan to take the girls next fall (my mother insists on tagging along). The thought of it makes my skin crawl. I'm not used to running around vacations any more. I haven't taken one since 2001.
My parents are taking the older one for a long weekend in December. Maybe she'll get her fix then.
