Getting excited!

Post by mrscherry2000 »

Getting excited about our Nov. 27 trip but in my eagerness to get to the island as early as possible, I seem to throw common sense out the door. I booked a 6AM flight from DCA instead of my normal BWI and that flight got moved to 5:45AM. Forgot that the lot might be full b/c of Thanksgiving travelers so I'm planning on parking in my office in DC and cab it which means we'll probably need to leave our house at 2:30AM! Which means we'll need to wake up at 1:30AM minimum!

And I wanted to try to get an early day on Trunk on Sunday since there are no cruise boats in port.

Not complaining because at least I'll be exhausted in Paradise.

Couldn't you just stay at a hotel the night before that would take you to the airport

I checked. The hotels shuttles don't start until 5AM. DCA has a mandatory 45 minute minimum check in.

Even a taxi fare would be better than staying up all night. If you are a carry-on person, you only need to check in on line and print your boarding pass the night before to satisfy the check in rule. I would want to be at the security check point at least an hour before departure at IAD.

There is a hotel on the airport, but the prices are prbably sky high.

Well, I went ahead and just booked a room near the airport for the night prior. I'll park my car at work the night before and then metro to the hotel and get a cab for a short 10 minute cab ride in the morning. That's a bit of pressure off the early morning, plus it'll be easier to get my husband out of the hotel than out of our home at that hour. Still hoping I can call for a cab for that early in the morning.

We flew out of DCA two Thanksgivings ago instead of BWI...we also were worried about parking. We stayed at the holiday inn right there..don't remember an issue with an early flight shuttle. When we got to the airport it was deserted..you never would have guessed it was Thanksgiving!..Also, one XMAS trip they moved my flight up like yours the night before..I said that was unacceptable & they need to put me on the BWI flight. (I knew there was one but it cost 200 more). They agreed without a complaint. Of course they weren't smart enough to realize I also needed to fly back to BWI..that took some explaining LOL. We ended up with a 10 minute drive to catch an 8:00 AM flight..much better than a 30 minute drive for a 5:00 AM flight..might be worth a try.

I have been guilty of such things in the past. Leaving early and/or going to an airport farther away sounds ok when you are planning, then you realize when it gets close...ugh..this is going to be painful.
You might also want to consider calling a cab company the night before to arrange for them to pick you up at a certain time at the hotel. We always make taxi arrangements the night before.
