coc real

Post by liamsaunt »

I just got back from the grocery store and found a new product that I thought might be of interest to you tropical drink fans. Coco Real--it's cream of coconut from the Dominican Republic that comes in a squeeze bottle--kind of like ketchup. You store it at room temperature. It seems like this would be a more convenient product than the cans of Coco Lopez if you are not going to be able to use it all at once. Not that that would happen on St. John, of course, but maybe at home...maybe.

I am such a dork-I even took a picture of it for you! (Excuse the mess on the table, I have Liam and Caili here today). Price: $3.99.

I tried this because the cost is lower and I like Pina Coladas. I was very disappointed. Back to Coco Lopez for me. Something tasted gritty and just "off" about it.
When will I see St John again?

FYI you can keep the Coco Lopez in the fridge - we just put it in a "tupperware" type container with lid and it keeps indefinately (as far as we can tell  )

Well, I thought it might be too good to be true! I posted about it before trying it, because I thought the packaging was such a good idea. Oh well. I guess it's back to the good old Coco Lopez in the can.

In our area, the Coco Lopez etc is in the soda aisle.

All this talk of STJ and drinking inspired me - picked up the ingredients from the supermarket and made mango coladas tonight! Like this:

1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 cup ripe mangoes, cubes
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/3 cup cream of coconut
1/3 cup light rum
1 cup crushed ice

1. Place all ingredients in a blender (add ice last) and blend until smooth and thick.

2. Pour into tall glass and sip slowly!
