What a bummer! :( I think you made the right choice though. Hopefully you'll be looking forward to another trip in the near future.

We are on STT now after evacuating STJ due to Earl. Yesterday at the Wyndham was no fun. Curfewed in rooms at 2 pm. No alcohol service due to storm. Given a sandwich, fruit, big jug of water and a rain poncho in a rations kit. No other food until 9:30 pm when everyone else was also trying to get into the 1 open restaurant. By then the booze was flowing so everyone was in good spirits, but really not a fun end to the trip. Better if we didn't have a baby to keep occupied for all that time. Few down trees at the resort, BIG trees, but we never lost power or water so I must offer a huge thanks to the forumites who gave me awesome advice to leave sooner than later. Made it much easier. Sucks to not go this time, but with the next storm coming it's a good call.

Jim so sorry that you had to cancel but I agree that it is the smartest choice. I wish you another sun filled trip in the near future.

Sorry about your trip. Maybe you can join Diana at the end of the SOTB trip and she can have a 2 week + trip!

@JimG20- you did the right thing. Given the details you provided (liek Delta giving refund) I think that's the way to go. While lodging costs aren't exactly insignificant, you can always find some really good deals on island. Esp POST hurricane. I'd say get everything back that you can and rebook outside of H season.

I hear there's gonna be a pretty good party on Jost and STJ in early December

I've thought about that. :)

Thanks for all the comments and guidance. We will have another chance to go back and have some fun. When we take a step back and look at what others are facing, this is so insignificant. People have probably lost their homes, their jobs, and their boats. They may not have power, water or food. We are still very fortunate.

I would really like to go down there and put our skills to work in their recovery effort, but I don't know how to connect into their system. We don't want to go there and not only not be able to help but become an additional burden to them. Let's all look for opportunities to help out where we can when we can.

If nothing else, the mosquitos are probably gonna be really bad.
