Florida Keys?
Florida Keys?
I have just started researching the Florida Keys. Does anyone have any suggestions? We will go over Christmas and New Years with our teenage sons. We don't want to be in the hottest spots but want to be able to drive to the hot spots from our quieter area.
Venice, Florida? Sanibel? Sarisota? Lido resort was mentioned in a post by Minde. We don't mind staying in a resort. We would really like a heated pool.
What say you?
xoxo

I agree, Loria. I am looking now to see what kind of activities we can do if the weather keeps us out of the water. It looks like Busch Gardens aren't too far away . . . But I bet it will be excessively busy. I saw some ghost tours and historical tours. Right now I am leaning toward sarisota/venice. I haven't given up on St. kitts. I am going to call our travel agent tomorrow. I am really struggling with a destination.

Hi,
I agree with Minde wholeheartedly for you to browse Trip Advisor and ask away. Disclaimer, I am a wanna be local (soon to be snowbird) - have had a vacation home in the lower keys since 2005 & we go down about 2-3 times / year. Where to stay really depends on what you like to enjoy, activities for sxample, near a lot of restaurants, party scene or not, and level of peace N quiet, e.g. very quiet & scencic v. noisy. Whether you want to rent a car or not. Whether this would be your 1st trip to KW or have already been there, and perhaps your age group range. We always kayak in the winter - but it's dependent on the wind direction & speed of the day, it varies. Feel free to PM me with specific Qs if you like. Have fun with your research.

Hi Gina---Not sure if you are interested in the "Keys" or the Gulf Coast (such as Sanibel, Sarasota), but if you're looking at the Keys, we really enjoyed Hawk's Cay resort.

I can't guarantee the weather at Christmas!

Been to the Keys at Christmas time so many times visiting taking our kids to visit the Grandparents. It is a crap shoot. One year it was 85 and gorgeous, next year it was 60 and freezing. Same for Venice area where the other Grandparents lived.
It's gorgeous, but don't count on the weather that time of year.
