Need different suggestions for brunch
Hi all,
I'm hosting a baby shower brunch in a couple of weeks. This girl just got married last year and we did a typical brunch with quiche, fruit salad, muffins and I don't want to repeat the same thing.
Any ideas? The mom to be doesn't like hamburger, but other than that, I'm open! I'm thinking of doing a dessert bar with cupcakes, cookies, lemon bars, etc for that portion.

When I do brunch, I like to make breakfast casserole and coffee cakes. And mimosas, but not for the lady with the baby on board.
Sometimes, I will do a really good chicken salad on a croissant. I actually have the recipe that someone created for a baby shower brunch one time! I can share if you want it.
I have great recipes for all those things. I also just made a rocking zucchini bread that would be good for a brunch. You want things that will feed a crowd.

I'd go more toward the savory side if you did this only a year ago for, I'm assuming, a lot of the same people.
maybe some small sandwiches, something in a cucumber cup, maybe a chilled soup in a small shooter type glass.
we about to embark on our annual family vacation in maine and my night to cook is Italian night. I'm doing this as a starter instead of a salad.

Having done a few showers lately, how about wraps? I make 3 tasty ones. 1. Ham, brie, thin sliced granny smiths & spicy mustard. 2.Roast beef, provalone & roasted red pepper, mustard. 3.Turkey with a spread of cream cheese & dried cranberries. You make them in the morning, wrapin saran wrap and just before people come slice in halves & serve. That and a nice green salad & fruit salad are all you need...along with dessert of course

If you are doing cupcakes, do a cupcake tower! They are so cute. Every time I have had one it's been a huge hit.
Pregnancy means there's a whole list of foods that she might not be able to eat. Off the top of my head: tuna, all deli meats, soft cheeses such as brie and blue (though I am pretty sure goat cheeses are OK), rare beef. Certain vegetables are out (including the evil fiddlehead). I know there are a lot more potentially taboo items--what's OK seems to vary from person to person.
One pretty thing I have done for a ladies-focused brunch is to freeze food-safe flowers into blocks of ice and then make a punch to float them in.

You guys are so creative and have given me many different ways to go. I love the sandwich idea because I could do chicken salad on croissants, the ham and cheese things that look AMAZING from MB and then a wrap so everyone has choices. Mom to be isn't avoiding deli meat and the cheeses I can work around.
Lulu-I'd love to have the zucchini bread recipe. I always love to do the breakfast part of brunch to and would definitely be doing it this time if we didn't just have the wedding shower last year. I'll have to make a decision soon!

We like Ranch Pizza and I think it would be good for a brunch too.
Just use a can of refridgerated thin crust pizza dough. Pre-bake the crust.
Then instead of pizza sauce use Ranch dressing (I mix up the dry Hidden Valley).
Top with thinly sliced onion, chopped green pepper and Roma tomato to taste. Go easy on the veggies though as they add alot of moisture.
Top with one full package of pre-cooked bacon-chopped.
Then add shredded Italian 5-cheese blend to taste.
Bake about 15-20 minutes more until cheese is lightly browned.
Cut into squares and enjoy.
