Last minute question ~ Need Advice!!!

Post by islandjo2010 »

Hey everyone!

I have 1 final question I need help with...what type of shoes are best for the hiking trails? Do you recommend tennis shoes or are Teva sandals with the cutout/opennings okay?

We are ready, packed and anxiously waiting for Wednesday morning!

Thanks for your advice...always very helpful! 8)

Honestly my "go to" shoe for STJ are Keens. IMHO there's nothing better for hiking and beaches on STJ. They come in fun colors. Look for the H2's. They aren't cheap but you can occasionally find good deals. If you can snag a pair for around $40-50 that's a good deal.

Trust me, they are WORTH it.

Keens are the best for almost everything on STJ - hiking, beach and even most restaurants!

I love the Newport H2 sandals...am on my third pair..... in addition to STJ I have hiked Masada in Israel, hiked in the rainforest n Ecuador, walked all over Bali, and even wear them at home in Peoria!

Keens are great, Teva also makes a similar style. The key here is they are closed toed. The trails have rocks and cactus, you really need toe protection.
A great tip I heard here is to bring a travel sized baby powder. A little sprinkle of powder will get all the sand off your feet and make putting your shoes back on easier and more comfortable.

Have a GREAT time!

Keens are great, but sure do eat up a pedicure.

Since you're leaving Wednesday, I think you'll be fine with sneakers.

Have a great trip! And don't forget the TR when you get back.

Thanks everyone! It sounds like Keens get the vote! I have checked around and they do look like a great and versatile shoe. Problem...the closest store that carry them are way across town. :( If time permits, I will do some shopping! :) If not, then maybe I should wear tennis shoes...I would hate to get stuck by a cactus...ouch!

Joppa ~ Thanks, I had read that about baby powder and it is packed!

Thanks again everyone and look for the trip reports soon...not sure how I will do at daily ones thou!
