Ten days at Concordia - Part 1
Ten days at Concordia - Part 1
I just got back from my trip yesterday so I figured I'd start this trip report before I get lazy and forget most of the details. Getting home was a bit of a hassle but we'll save that for a later post.
The first day was really just a travel day. Went to bed at 11pm the night before because of last minute packing and information gathering. Woke up at 3am to leave Baltimore at 4am to get to Reagan airport in DC by 5am for a 7am flight. I'm tired just typing that. Luckily that early on a Tuesday morning there isn't any traffic to worry about so the ride is smooth and we get into our terminal as the sun is rising over the Potomac. DCA is a pretty cool airport. The rest of the travel day is pretty boring. All flights were on time and went smoothly (on Spirit). The middle seats suck horribly though. I couldn't slouch in my seat at all without my knees being jammed into the back of the seat in front of me, and i'm only 5'8". Dramamine, and four hours of anxious sleep the night before helped me fall asleep on both plane rides.
We got to STT at 3pm and immediately caught a taxi to Red Hook for the 4pm ferry. Traffic was horrible so our taxi took an awesome detour through some back roads i've never been on. I thought it was awesome. My girlfriend Holly was getting motion sick and a little nervous by some of turns/hills. We make one stop at a resort where the lady being dropped off didn't have money for the cab. wtf. who takes a taxi without money to pay for it. After about 15 minutes of sitting there, our cab driver gets fed up and rushes to get us to the dock for the 4pm ferry.
We make it on and before we know it we're on STJ. We walk to Paris (because I forgot to call them when we landed on STT to pick us up at the ferry dock) and pick up our wrangler. Everything went smoothly with them and 20% off made it even better. I was glad to see the Jeep had a few dents already. I pointed out a couple scuff marks on the paint and the response was. "Ah don't worry about that." Sweet. No worries about getting a small ding on this thing. Just have to worry about gas with the only gas station being in Cruz Bay. We had a little battery issue later in the trip but they handled it decently. I'll talk more about that later.
Anyways, we make it to Concordia by 5:something and check in. Didn't get the tent I requested (P13) but who cares at this point. We're both hungry and tired from travelling. We drop our stuff off and head down to eat at Cafe Concordia. The food there is great, and they have Josephine's Greens on the menu. I forget what we got to eat. Some chicken thing and some fish and chips I think. They were both good.
Did I mention that it's pretty muggy out? It is. It's really muggy, and buggy. And our tent was one that had pretty much no breeze (E6). It has some fans though so it's not a huge deal. We take a quick dip in the pool and go straight to bed. Travel days always seem long and are always tiring. I think it was 8 or 9pm when we fell asleep to the tree frogs making a lovely racket all around the tent. It was great...as long as the fans were on.
I didn't take any photos this day, but here's one of our view from the tent later in the week. This was after some of the humidity and haziness moved out.

Re: Ten days at Concordia - Part 1
Our first trip was at Concordia in tent E6. Basic yes, but I absolutely loved it. I was convinced after staying there that my dream house was about 400 square feet, with a solar shower.jmhouse wrote:And our tent was one that had pretty much no breeze (E6). Really looking forward to following your adventures.

Yeah I loved it. It might not have had much of a breeze, but it was surrounded by lush green. It felt nice and private because of that. The hermit crabs were really active right outside the door so they were a lot of fun to watch and feed. There was also a bananquit nest just outside the tent, so they were always flying around and landing nearby.
