Seaborne Air

Post by Agent99 »

Since planning and getting there is part of the fun for us I was kicking around the idea of flying Jet Blue to San Juan then a seaplane to STT as a surprise for the utes. We've watched them land as we wait for the STJ ferry and it looks like a kick. The rates don't seem to be much different than the Cape Air puddle jumpers that are also fun and handy.

Has anyone experience traveling with Seaborne?

I'm interested also in hearing people's experiences. I want to do an excursion to STX but I'm afraid of the Barf Barge.

The Flyboats only go between STT & STX

You can book a fly / ferry ticket from STX to STJ

It is big fun to take off & land in a city harbor...

I flew from San Juan to STT on Seaborne in March. I was pleased with the experience. The fare was a little less than flying American Airlines. The windows are large, so you can see out well and the plane flys fairly low. I would definitely do it again. The only draw back was luggage. They allow 30 pounds "complimentary" and anything over that is $1.25/pound. Very hard to pack for a week for 30 pounds. But it also kept me from packing more than I needed. The flights from SJU to STT land at the airport -- on land.

Some people I know in Puerto Rico warned me that flying Seaborne would be like "flying back in the 60's" and seemed to be cautioning me that it would be a bad experience. But I would do it again.

Also note Seaborne flys out of the small airport near Old San Juan -- not the commercial airport.

Thanks for that imput. I didn't realize that the San Juan to StJ flights would land at the airport. Probably not much different than the Cape Air flights. I guess the ones we see landing in the harbor are coming from STX. A good excuse for a day trip there sometime.

From Seaborneairlines.com:

"Seaborne seaplane flies between downtown Christiansted and downtown Charlotte Amalie.

Seaborne airshuttle flies between St. Croix Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, St. Thomas Cyril E. King Airport and San Juan Isla Grande Airport."

San Juan Isla Grande airport is not SJU Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.
