Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre
Well, even though I'm feeling a wee bit strapped for cash, my DH and I booked a 5 day getaway to Cinque Terre, Italy. We're going to be there in late September, and are going to be staying in Vernazza. No real plans, except to hike the coastline, and enjoy the scenery.
I know a five day trip to Italy sounds a little rushed, but we spend most of September in England each year, so it's just a two hour flight to Pisa, and then a short train journey.
So, if anyone has any "don't miss" bits of advice, please do tell. I'm really looking forward to this getaway.

Oh man..was there in Vernazza in October of 2009. If you've never been, you are in for an incredible treat. We stayed at Toninio Basso. It was a quaint room with a free laptop and internet access located up the hill from the train station. We really tried to get a room down on the harbor, but couldn't reserve one ahead of time and became nervous. One of the best restaurants was right below us known as the Pirate bar. Incredible food and a great place. One thing we learned is that the places to eat on the water do not have the best food. If I was to go again, which we will, I would rather stay in Riomaggiore or Monterosso. Rick Steves is great, but he made Vernazza a haven for tourists. Too many people. The hikes are wonderful, rent hiking sticks, some hikes are hefty. One week there is plenty, enjoy it! You will love the people. I want to retire there! I posted some pics on my trip report back in 10/09
