Bicycle Rental on STJ
I know this sounds stupid, but I am wondering if there are any bike rental places on St. John. I would be only interested in riding some loops on flatter areas! I am training for a race and wouldn't you know it, my vacation is right in the middle of my training calendar. No chance I'm missing out on my vacation!

Hi Tracy,
Not a stupid Question at all. We have a local Triathlon here on St. John and an Ironman 70.3 was just held in St. Croix. There is an community of athletes here that may be able to assist you. To answer the Question, No.. as to rentals, but I can put you in contact with some local bikers who may be able to loan you a ride. As my name states I am a runner, an avid one,so i do not have a bike or I would gladly share it with you.
The terrain here is Volcanic and Mountainous. If you bike or run here you will get incredible results. Is it dangerous?........ well yes it is, but nothing that common sense does not utterly trump. Out of hundreds upon hundreds of runs here on St. John I have had only one or two close calls. I only tell you this because people in cars and trucks are sometimes in their own worlds while driving, as you know as a biker, and it is no different here than on the mainland.
I am linking my runners blog for you here and my e-mail is available there. Contact me and I will see what I can do to help you out. You will Love biking, running and swimming here. the North Shore is storybookish in its beauty and appeal. There are a few flat areas if you want to go back and forth. Big Maho beach area is as flat as it gets here and would be a good start. If you decide not to bike, running and swimming would be good cross training for you in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Be Well and enjoy all that St. John offers.

The only place that I can think of that might rent you a bike is Arawak, http://www.arawakexp.com/ They do guided bike tours, not sure if they will just rent you the bike. Be careful! stjohnrunner can tell you the "loop" he runs out at Maho sometimes that you could do on the bike, it's a pretty safe low traffic area.

Thanks for all your help! I will look into all those options. I am aware of the Love City Triathlon and also the St. Croix 70.3 and I have seen a few bikers on the roads while on previous visits so know it can be done! I want to be sure I am safe though, too.
Maybe a trainer would be the way to go - or I just better get my butt out there alot before my trip. I do plan to run and swim some, so that will keep me going
