I think they did a fantastic job with this project. They will finish ahead of schedule, which is unheard of on St.John. They would have finished way ahead of schedule if Innovative wasn't months behind schedule.
Now we just need roundabout classes. I hear there will be some PSA's to educate the public on how to use the thing. People still stop in the middle of the circle to let people out or yield to incoming traffic. Pedestrians also walk through the middle of it which really screws things up. The center of the circle will be level with the asphalt because large trucks are supposed to drive on it to make the turns. Hard to do if people are using it like a sidewalk.
There used to be a stoplight on St. John, but that didn't go over so well. I'm glad they decided on a roundabout. That is an odd intersection and I think the roundabout was the best solution.

Signage...I hope they put up lots of signage. We have a roundabout by my house and you'd be surprised at how many signs are around that thing. Every entrance has a yield sign and a one-way sign (pointing to the right in MI
). Then there are all the arrows painted on the pavement too. We have a really pretty flagpole and plants in the middle of ours. The circle is big enough in diameter that buses and trucks can go around it without having to use any of the middle section.
We saw all sorts of crazy stuff happening in Feb. Hopefully once the locals become comfortable with it, the tourists will be able to follow the flow of traffic.stjohnjulie wrote: Now we just need roundabout classes. The on-time on-budget is amazing. How did that happen?

I haven't seen anyone drive the wrong way through it since they put in the brick dividers on each of the roads. Having the huge brick circle in the middle really deters people from cutting straight through the circle. There are quite a few signs up right now, and I imagine once the final paving is done, they will paint arrows on the road (that will probably fade away within a month!)
Lots of arrows would be great. Not used to driving on left plus roundabout...confusing for my small brain.
Not that I drive much there, but at least I will be safe as "someone I know" drove the wrong way last time.
We are just getting roundabouts here in Charlotte. We're a little behind in the South.
