I need to spend more time with my new camera. I have been talking lenses with a very skill amateur friend and he gave me some suggestions on zooms. I have one in mind and may get it this week.

With my old Canon, I had in long enough and had the attitude of no big deal if something happens to it so I would take it in the water with me (no underwater), into the woods at the bottom of my day pack, let it sit on the patio table so it was always on hand, etc.

With my new camera, I am worried something will happen to it - I will drop it, get it wet or whatever. I need to get over that.

Those DSLRs are pretty tough- don't worry too much! I have taken mine on the beach, on small boats, in the water (not under) on the reef bay hike- pretty much everywhere. Once a year I take it to a great camera shop here where they clean the sensor for me, blow the sand out, etc. Once I did have some water damage and sent it in and Nikon fixed it completely- whew! I also have it insured, which eases the mind. But it's a pretty tough camera- just kind of bulky- hence the new G-11.

Don't forget that with many of the Canon point and shoots you can use CHDK to enable features like RAW shooting and much more.
