Clue me in.

Post by verjoy »

Our 20 yr old grandaughter, Zipline, just got engaged to her boyfriend Smedley. There is no engagement ring only matching tattoos.

Is this a trend? This granny would like to see a ring on her finger!

I have never heard of such a thing...

can't say I've heard of it but I say good for them. I did not want a ring but my husband insisted so in the end I had one. now it mostly sits in a jewelery box. not $$ well spent if you ask me.
my best friend freaks when she sees me without my ring. for her it is some sort of status symbol. to each his own.

Not a trend from what I see. Trend breakeakers perhaps in that they are committing themselves to each other in marriage. What I witness, marriage, moving out of the parents house, jobs, kids with only one partner seems to be out of the norm today. Don't worry about the tats, just wish them well and offer advice when they will listen.
Congratulations to them and all the best in the lifetime to come.

Maybe they'll get rings tattooed on their fingers!

Well you certainly can't slip off a tat and put it on the bedside table, now can you?

Didn't Beyonce and Jay-Z get tatooed wedding rings on their fingers when they got married? I think they did.

Not everybody likes jewelry, and for some people wearing rings is physically uncomfortable. I would not worry about it. Congrats to your granddaughter! :D

Funny you should mention this... my husband, who is of Italian descent, HATES jewelry b/c (1) metal on skin gives him the heebies and (2) he thinks it perpetuates a guido stereotype. I guess all those years of living on Long Island did that to him. Anyhow, he really wanted to get his wedding ring tattooed. Perhaps I should have agreed... instead I insisted on a traditional ring. I think there's a tattoo curse - you know, like as soon as you get a tattoo with your SO's name on it, you've doomed your relationship to failure.

Pamela Anderson and Tommie Lee are the first ones I remember hearing about getting the tattoos. She had his name tattooed on her ring finger. That was way back in the mid-90's. After they split she had the tattoo changed to Mommy. Tommy Lee had her name tattooed on his---errrr----manhood. Gotta just love these classy celebrities.

I think it is a little funny that Levi had Bristel (sp) tattooed on his ring finger. He has shown no class after their breakup and I am glad he has that tattoo to remind him of how low he sunk for his 15 minutes. Whatever you think of Sarah Palin shouldn't cloud how disrespectful he was to a girl that never threw him under the bus.

Also, Angelina Jolie has Billy Bob on her arm and somewhere near her womanhood (was that in the early 90's??)--I don't know but I would assume she changed it into something else--remember it was huge??? I might have to google and see what it looks like now.

I kinda like those wrist tattoos but I am not getting one any time soon--it seems to be the kiss of death for the relationship. I like this also:

I've got two beautiful 20 year old daughters. Sorry, but this would not be fit in our household. My girls already have tats. But thinking that a tat is an engagement ring...no way, I would want to have a chat with the dude.

Mmmm---I don't know Terry----some people just don't like jewelry. I have had two girlfriends get their rings caught while jumping off a boat. I know that doesn't sound believable but they did. One friend was in Mexico and really had a hard time getting care (she lost her finger). As I remember it she had to get a flight into the states to get care. The other friend got good care but ended up in the ICU due to infection. She had the finger reattached--I think she has full use but I am not sure.

So, with the first girlfriend I took off all of my rings. I wear them when we go out but otherwise my fingers are naked. I have thought about getting a ring finger tattoo but--it just seems like the kiss of death. The way I look it is if I want out of the marriage I will get a tattoo (only partially kidding). I don't want out of the marriage so no tattoo for me.

The reason it bothers me so much is that I have caught my ring zillions of times--a few times it has hurt but normally it isn't a big deal. But, the thought is there. So, rings off 90% of the time for me.
