I have been in contact with Caneel the past couple of months about whether or not they will close this year and the overall feeling is due the economical times, they are closing again this season for Sept/Oct.
Hopefully by 2011 when things are on the up swing, they'll be able to stay open the entire season. (That's what I am hoping for since it will be my 10 year anniversary and would love to celebrate a few nights there).

Interesting. We spent a day at Caneel and had dinner there. According to a very friendly staff member, the resort was 100% occupied for the entire month of February. Around town, the attitude was upbeat. Restaurant owners and business owners spoke of a tough year last year but were very optimistic for 2010 as things were looking up. Restaurants, parking lots and beaches were packed. We saw more families this year than we did last year for sure.
