That was the craziest parade I have ever been to! I have been a Saints fan all my life & never thought I would see this day.

I knew traffic would be bad, but had no idea it would take us an hour and a half to get downtown. I live outside of the city in Metairie and it usually takes about 15 minutes to get to downtown! We left my house at 4:30. I also knew that parking would be impossible so I recruited my Dad to drive myself, 2 daughters & stepmother down there - thank you dad! He got us as close as he could cutting through back streets and dropped us off around Lee Circle. The parade was just getting there. The crowd was so thick & the kids couldn't see anything. We decided to walk down to the convention cention to see if we could get closer and a better viewing spot. The plan payed off - we were right next to the floats. I got some amazing pictures - even got a decent picture of Sean Payton with the trophy. It was all so worth it. The crowd was awesome & the parade was great. I must say that it was freezing outside - ok 43 degrees with a strong wind is cold for southern Louisiana. We didn't get home til 10:45. I am exhausted and beginning to wonder if my feet will ever defrost and so happy that I was able to experience the first Super Bowl Championship Parade in New Orleans.

On another note - I couldn't help but cry at one point tonight. While I am completely over joyed with pride and love for the Saints, i couldn't help but think about where I was during the parade and the events that transpired there during Hurricane Katrina. The images of the New Orleans Convention Center that were shown after Katrina were heart breaking to say the least. The people starving in the heat with no aid in sight. What a completely different image to behold 4 1/2 years later. Who would have ever thought.

Those are great Wakey! Thanks for sharing! Nola Girl - would love to see some of your pics from last night. Heard from a friend that they estimated the crowd for the parade to be around 800,000!!!! That's incredible!

NolaGirl - I rode with my sister who picked me up Uptown thinking we were going straight to the parade but didn't realize we had to go to her house in Lakeview cuz the kids didn't have warm enough clothes. Took us an hour and a half to park in Canal Place. I posted on facebook that I felt like I was in contraflow again (only it was pleasant contraflow) We (three adults and 5 kids 12 down to 1) walk through the massive crowds on Canal Street with no problem whatsoever. Everyone was so pleasant as we went through the droves; it was AWESOME!

I know it was cold out there, but there were so many people that we must've kept each other warm. It was amazing! What I enjoyed the most was seeing the players appear to be in awe at how many people were out there. Later I heard people on the radio that had come from places like Beaumont, TX and Alabama!

The city is on a wonderful high right now and the fact that Mardi Gras is in full swing now just adds to it. I can't thank our players enough for such an amazing ride that so many of us are still in shock about. So many people never thought they would see the day the Saints would EVER make it to the Superbowl and winning it...crazy!!!!

BasUR - I will try to upload the pictures from the Saints parade this weekend. Can't find the USB cord for my camera. I'm hoping to have more pictures to upload of the Saints after the Mardi Gras parades this weekend.

Nothintolose - I can only imagine how bad the traffic was from Lakeview. It was bad at 3:15 when I picked my daughter up from school at St. Paul's. Did you all get stuck in the parking garage after?

Wakey - My exhusband was in Lucy's when Drew Brees came in after the parade & was there when he taught the crowd his chant. I would have loved to have been there. Did you hear about the blogger that is claiming that the Saint's broke an unwritten rule by not kicking the ball to the Colts after halftime!

I think it was published on Bleacherreport.com which is rife with 12 year olds, anyone can publish an article there. My google news reader is constantly showing me headlines from that site and I look forward to blocking it when Google allows that feature.

How awesome would it be to be in Lucy's and in walks Drew Brees! Through Youtube we've all gotten a glimpse of this. :D
