Greece trip
Greece trip
For those of you that have traveled or are traveling to Greece what websites or sources did you use?
So far, we're looking at September 2011. Athens for 2-3 days, Peloponesse 3 days, then the ferry to Lebos (or Levos depending on what map you are looking at), Chios, maybe Mykonos and maybe Santorini. If we don't do the last two islands then we will do some islands in Cyclades.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks

have you been before??? you are in for a real treat!!! I , personally would skip Mykonos--unless you are a big party person--but doing delos for a day trip is very worth it--Santorini is lovely stay in Oia if you can ---Crete is awesome. it is really wonderful--if you can get there, there are the Minoan ruins and all sorts of really cool things to do.
Greece is lovely, the people are wonderful. you will have an amazing time.

Loria,
Awesome website! He is the Rick Steve's of Greece. Thank you. We're not sold on the more popular islands. And we're coordinating this with one other couple that are totally on our same idea of enjoying traditional food, wine, sites and not hitting in the tourist traps. With that said, Santorinei and Mykonos maybe gone.

we stayed on Paros and did day trips to anti-paros (lovely) adn delos (worth it for th ehistory!) then on a prior trip cret and santorini--by september the crowds will be gone so you should have easy times in santorini--It really is beautiful and worth seeing honestly it's really a great place -and if you are there after labor day or in May/early June you will be fine--Crete is all that--but is HUGE and very different--
so many islands--so little time---on our paros trip we were traveling with young kids so ....diffcult to move much--on the crete/santorini trip we were on our own but o a serious budget (and greece was still in Drachma and we were early in season and --wow......we lived large--)
glad you like matt barrett--he is a wealth of knowledge.

Ive been to Greece 5 times and have always used tripadvisor. There are some very knowlegable people there who will help you out with most any question. I love Santorini and Mykonos...they often get a bad rap because they are so touristed, but they are beautiful and interesting. I was not so impressed with Crete, loved Paros and AntiParos, liked Rhodes, and Samos. Athens is a great city that also gets a bad rap. Greece is really a great destination...its my favorite place on Earth. (well, I am heading to st John later this month for the first time...so maybe I will revise that!)
