Question for first sailing trip
Question for first sailing trip
After numerous trips to St. John and the BVI, we are excited about our first sailing trip. My first question (of many) is what is the appropriate tip for our Captain? This is a private charter with a Captain/Owner. We are paying for all of the Captain's meals and I assume drinks. So what is an appropriate percentage/tip. We have 3 couples plus the Captain. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ten to twenty percent of the cost of the charter would be customary, depending on the level of service.

Is this also true if the captain is also the owner of the vesel. I always wondered what the ettiquite is, for example (although not maybe a good comparision) when receiveing service from the owner of a salon, for example,in my area a tip is not customary.captainjay wrote:Ten to twenty percent of the cost of the charter would be customary, depending on the level of service.
