Large group visiting - need some help/ideas

Post by Fredo »

Hi All,

I'm trying to coordinate a trip for a large group of guys traveling down to STJ for a bachelor party in April. Though I gather STJ isn't the ideal spot for such an event - I have to believe with enough planning we can pull off something memorable (maybe not quite up to "The Hangover" - but fun none-the-less).

It is likely to be 10 people (ages 25-35) staying for 3 nights in a villa around the CB/GCB area.

I'm interested in suggested itineraries, bars/clubs to visit, tips & general suggestions.

Apart from that - I'd say there are not any real pressing motivations apart from everyone wanting to relax, have a good time and maybe meet a few pretty ladies.

I appreciate your help!

Fredo---I would suggest that you get a boat to take you on a "BVI Beach Bar Crawl." This would be an all-day event. Let us know if you need details on getting a boat, where to go.

You'll be able to find the STJ bars pretty easily. They are mostly in downtown Cruz Bay, and you can just wander back and forth between Woody's, Beach Bar, Larry's Landing, Crazy Crackers, Quiet Mon--all within a few block radius.

Thanks for the tips Jim. Bar crawl seems right up this crews alley. If you have the information on the boat service you mention - that would be appreciated as well.

Fredo--If you like the BVI boat day idea,I would call Ocean Runners in Cruz Bay and book their largest powerboat with captain (accomodates 10). If you have more than that, you can get two boats, or ask around for larger boats---I know there are some.

A good beach bar boat itinerary might be (1) Pirates at Norman Island; (2) Willie T (Norman Island); (3)lunch at Foxy's Taboo on Jost(might stop at the Bubbly Pool here, too), then finish up on White Bay (Jost) for drinks at Soggy Dollar and or Ivan's. You can continue the party in Cruz Bay when you get back. Everyone will need passports.

Your reference to "clubs" worried me a little too...these are just laid back beach bars for chillin. But personally, I think this would make for a great bachelor's party. If you wake up with a tiger in your villa, something has gone terribly wrong.

Born to Rhumb might be a good boat option for a group your size:

for our large group trip, we hired a driver to take us all over the island. she also was on call to take us where and pick us up. she has a hugh open air safari truck and she is extremely reliable. Her name is Sonia Innocent . I cannot put my hands on her number, but they would have it at Ultimate St. John Villas. Ask for kriten. Finally, we rented C'est Blue villa in virgin Garnd. Great house and great view.

Thank you all for your input here. And my mistake on the club reference - this is definately not a "club" crowd. The chilled beach bar scene sounds perfect. I also must say I'm intrigued by the safari truck driver - Sonia Innocent. Can't wait to pass that one along to the fellas...

I don't know about a tiger, but there is a very HIGH liklihood of a chicken ending up in your villa or maybe a donkey!!

Just keep in mind that things don't stay open crazy late in Cruz Bay. One trip we closed the town down on a Saturday night with some serious drinking and by 1 am you could hear crickets. STJ is not an all night town by any stretch.

Plenty of choices in Cruz Bay for exactly what you want to do. If you can, try for a villa within walking distance. There are several up the hill that way you can drink as much as you want and walk home.

Another option is to party at the villa. But keep in mind that the villas are located in residential neighborhoods and you need to be respectful.

You could also go the other route and do some manly hiking (Reef Bay and Ram Head).

IowaGuy's suggestion of a boat is also a good one. Jost/Soggy Dollar can have a pretty decent a party scene on the week-ends and the Willy T is also a blast but that can be hit or miss depending on the crowds.
*Another fine scatterbrained production
