Trip Report 12/26-1/2 Day 4 Sail, Shark, Chocolate Bliss
12/29 Today is our sail on the Fat Alice with Captain Nick. My sis, Mom, and I had booked this same boat (different captain, but that's a whole other story) in February of 08 on our girl's trip, and Trevor hooked us up with it again this go around. It's not a huge boat, nothing fancy, but perfectly fits our needs. The plan is to meet him at 1:00, have a short snorkel stop, and have a little "memorial" for our mom who passed away January 1, 2009. She loved sailing on the Fat Alice last time, so this was perfect.

We meet Captain Nick early (around 12:40) and dingy out to the boat. He's a great captain, very knowledgeable and fun. He gives a quick safety spiel, showing us the emergency exits on each side of the boat LOL. We putter out of Cruz Bay and hubby helps hoist the sails.

A quick jog to Honeymoon where sis and niece plan to snorkel. I got plenty of sun on my back the day before, and plan to let it simmer out of the sun today. Here, the Cap’n enlists Charlie’s help in hooking the mooring. This causes me to giggle as we’re now thinking of my darling hubby as “the hooker”. That part leads me to giggle and refer to Captain Nick as a pimp, which thankfully he finds hilarious! He then takes Dawn & Jess closer to shore in the dingy and hubby and I chill on the boat. Captain Nick returns & we chat, he teaches us a bit of that area's history, such as Women's island and such.
Sis and niece swim all the way back to the boat after about 45 minutes

and are pretty hyped up...they've seen a Nurse shark..

This makes the captain happy, as nobody has ever seen one on one of his sails.
My niece also caught a few nice pics of other sea life

And then I catch a picture of her…as she normally appears to us

We find a quiet spot and talk a bit about mom, and how funny she found the bird name Brown Boobies.
We bought a small, biodegradable urn thing that you can just place in the water, it slowly drifts and sinks...better then messy ashes, which in all honesty kind of freak me and the sis out. It's really nice and peaceful, she always said she felt so at home on these islands, it was perfect.

We sail around a bit more and then head back to Cruz Bay. Someone in a big, fancy boat has taken the Fat Alice's mooring. Let me tell you, we knew Captain Nick was from Maine (he told us) but you couldn't hear it in his accent until he was mad at these people. Wow did that accent come out LOL He politely told them where anchorage was and pointed it out. All of a sudden my husband went from being Charlie to “Chaaalie”. They told him they would just be a little bit, had to clear customs. He patiently hollered that he would be back after dropping us off and he would need his spot...they, not so patiently yelled back they just had to clear customs. He had a cute little rant about some people not reading anything or paying attention to anything...it was fine, he made us smile. By the time we turned around, they were pulling out. We dingy back and sadly said goodbye to Captain Nick. We then headed straight across to Mongoose for bathrooms and cool drinks at Deli Grotto. Then right off to the Tattoo place to see Pat about our plans for tats on Thursday. She had done my first tat on my '08 trip, and I was excited to talk to her about another. Now, if you've never been, her place is about 10 x 10 ft. There were already 4 people in there so it was crowded, but that's ok (island mode).
We waited our turn, chatted it out, picked our tats, and headed to our 5:30 reservation at Lime Inn. New York Strip steaks all around. Now, as wonderful as the main course was, we weren't kidding ourselves, we were here for dessert. The hot fudge brownie is to die for, I suggest nobody misses it! Hubby had the apple pie crisp, I tried that...it wasn't chocolate nirvana of course, but it was awesome all the same. We waddle back to our jeep, head back to the villa, break out the Jello shots (which my niece is becoming a connoisseur of) and play some games. Off to bed around 11:30 or so.
Tomorrow: A shortened hike, wonderful turtles, a downpour, and a mongoose in love with Doritos
