Does Size Matter? with respect to Jeeps?

Now that I have your attention...

For our upcoming trip in June I need to reserve our vehicle, but I'm a little unsure about size. Our group is two adults and two kids ages 14 & 11. We will be carry-on only, so 3 wheeled carry-on bags and one backpack style without wheels...plus a couple of purses.

I know the 2-door soft-top Wrangler looks too small (this was perfect for 2 of us last June).

Is the 2-door hard-side Wrangler any bigger or do we really need the 4-door Wrangler size vehicle?

it's nice for the kids to have leg room I would get 4 door

If you have the option I would say go with the four door just for a little extra space.

Climbing over the seats to get in and out is fun the first few days but it gets tiresome after a while.

In this case bigger is probably better.

I couldn't agree more. I had bruises from climbing in and out the last time we had 4 (in our case) people in a two door jeep

Two door hard tops are no bigger than soft tops. As a 2 door hardtop driver in my real life, I'll tell you that getting in and out of the back is tough and the cargo area behind the back seat is practically non-existent.

However, we have done multiple trips to STJ with 4 adults in a 2 door Jeep, so it's do-able. Kids can climb better in the back easier than us old folks and with carryon only, luggage shouldn't be an issue.

Besides, as nice as the 4 doors are, when I am forced to get one on STJ, it just seems to lack the fun factor a 2 door Wrangler has.

The bigger the better!
We have 14 and 11 yr. old boys and once you load up coolers, snorkel gear, beach chairs, towels ect., we needed all the room we could get! Add a trip to the market for groceries on the way back and you get my drift. Go for the 4 door!

Its not the size but how you use it.

We rented a 4 door Jeep Limited this past November and loved it.
Vicki made a great point; the kids probably won't have too much to complain about with a 2 door, but
I'd say go 4 door.It's just more comfortable, plus it doesn't really make that big a difference as far as parking...

Thanks everyone. All 4 of us plus the luggage will probably be in the Jeep only once when we go to turn it in on our last morning since at least one person usually rides with the villa greeter. (in my limited experience)

The only thing that had me thinking 2-door (other than Vicki's astute observation of fun-factor) is that ease of parking is directly proportional to the smallness of the vehicle!

We've had both 4D and 2D Jeeps on the island and didn't see much difference in the fun factor. I drive the 4D at home. The 2D is easier to back up in tight spots.

The hardtop 2D does allow you to stack carry-on sized luggage behind the seats, so if the kids don't mind possibly having a bag in their lap then it is OK.

For the cost difference, we will be making our little one climb over the seats again this year.

Throw a couple of bungi cords in your suit case to put luggage or beach chairs on the roof.
