Pam's Trip Report Part 5

Post by pegoode »

Monday, 11/30

Another lovely day in the neighborhood. Watched the iguanas crawling out to sun themselves on the branches of the tree next to the balcony. Felt an earthquake! That made for interesting conversation. Since we are renting for 8 days, one visit from the cleaning lady is included in our rate. She called last night and arranged to be there at 10:30 so we decided we’d head out by 10.

Wheels up at 10, cooler packed - off to the East End. Saw some locals along the way.

Found Sloop Jones’ studio and several in the group left a deposit there. Very pretty stuff! Oh ya, a woman from Maine works there too. Then we set out to find Salt Pond. There is a little trek down to the beach but people we met along the way assured us it was worth it. We liked this beach - we found a place with a picnic table and a good shade/sun ratio. It turned out to be the most exciting snorkeling. The water was teaming with silversides; pelicans were diving all around, tarpon were swimming through the middle of the silversides and there were stingrays around. A real treat for me. The guy next to us said two mongoose started to raid our picnic area but were scared off as someone came back out of the water. Close call I guess but I never ended up seeing a mongoose the whole trip.

When the beer was gone, we made the trek back to the car - it seemed a much longer walk going uphill, funny how that happens! People were longing for another trip to Skinny’s so back we went to see our waitress from Maine and have a bite of lunch. Burgers and blackened Mahi all around. Then back home to a clean house, clean pool and a bubbling hot tub.

Re: the hot tub - turned out not to be a big deal to us. I think everyone got in it once, some maybe twice. The rest of the day looked like this - pool, drinks, showers then off to dinner at the Banana Deck. We called ahead so they were ready for us. Service and food were very good. I ordered the steak quesadilla and ended up taking half of it home. It was good but too much food after the conch fritter appetizer! We all shared a couple of these yummy burrito things for dessert.

Our waitress was from Maine - go figure. Back home for gimlets on the balcony and star gazing. The end to another excellent day.
