Northshore Road Work

Post by Diana2 »

I was just wondering how the road improvement project is progressing. I guess I'm bored.

It's cold, rainy and miserable here in Michigan today. I'm glad I'm not one of those idiots standing in line in Grand Rapids waiting for Sarah Palin's autograph  .

I'll be there the 1st 2 weeks in May. I'd love to have a get together. I vote for a gathering at Oppenheimer but we have time to figure it out.

Hi Diana

wow We are hoping for May 7 for 10 days. We never make plans until the last minute to take advantage of the last minute specials. Any beach is fine with us...we usually hit maho bay to get our slice of magic as soon as we get there. yep plenty of time, just have to get thru this michigan winter.

Was there last week. Right now it's along the stretch between Estate Lindholm and Caneel. Closer to caneel. Maybe a quarter to half a mile stretch, if that. ? time delay of about 5 minutes max. Actually seemed to be making more progress on that than the roundabout. Which didn't seem to change at all last week. Same road crew?

It is the same company working on both projects... North shore road is a lot more straight forward, literally, though they're not closer to Caneel than to Lind Point, by a long shot--they're working on Lind Point, just a few hundred feet east of the crest of the hill. Going smoothly except for the time we were stopped at the red light and it never did turn greenjavascript:emoticon('')
The round-about will be finished in January, many months ahead of the original schedule. It works very well, so far.

Thanks for the clarification, seemed like the stop light going the other way was right after the entrance to caneel. But I sure I'm wrong. We had the same thing happen to us, light wouldn't change. Finally one of the road crew did something and it changed.

Roundabout does work pretty well. Certainly does take some getting used – doing a round about from the other side of the road.

Is the North Shore road work going slowly? Doing just a small bit at a time? Or are those cones stretching for a long portion of it?

That's always the first thing we do with a new visitor, and we are taking a new visitor there in January... just wondering what the experience will be like.

They are doing a small bit at a time; at least they were doing a small bit this week.

At most there were 4 - 5 cars waiting for the light to change - that will probably be 8 - 10 in January.

Thank you! That doesn't sound like it blights the view or anything. : )

I hope you had a wonderful trip.

The North shore road work doesn't really slow you down. I was surprised at how short the one-lane stretch really is. The roundabout works okay, but no matter how many guys I saw working on it in early November, I didn't really see much getting done. Basically like most roadwork around here!

Just got home and in three weeks saw a lot of progress on the North Shore road. Also, it's well-organized and barely impedes travel. I don't know how much more they are planning to do but they completed a big stretch of it while we were there.

That roundabout is another story. jeesh. what a dusty mess. Never saw much real work getting done, but every day the bulldozer was perched on a different pile of rubble.
