book- In defense of food- have you read?
The night after I told you all that I have lost weight doing a mostly clean diet I came home and my husband had made supper. It was so kind. But he used white pasta. I am not rigid about it at all BUT my post ran through my mind.
I am not sure that the health benefits that we can all google are real or not. I have heard people say that eating clean has made them feel better. I can't say that is true for me--but I am mostly clean and not over the top about it.
Anyway, my Mom called tonight to tell me that my uncle has cancer. She has already lost two-TWO-brothers to cancer. Clearly, that is genetic. And that scares me. Do you think clean eating can help? The are many stories on google that say it is possible--but there are stories on google that are just nuts too.
What do you think??

My sons great grandfather worked on the team that created high fructose corn syrup. He was always proud of that until he realized how bad it is for you. Now he tries to avoid it. This is not easy since it is in many processed foods. I worked in the food industry for many years, some of that time in manufacturing. In manufacturing most of the additives we put in the food came with warnings on the package. Some were illegal to put in the drain but fine for foods. Others had strong warnings for pregnant women. Still others warnings about inhaling. One we put on the ice in our parking lot, yes much like ice melt. Would you willingly eat ice melt? Not me. Part of my job was to taste test foods. One time I took a spoon of potato salad and there was a clump of unmixed additive in it. Nothing tasted right for a week after that. All I could taste was a chemical taste sort of metal like. It was horrible. It was also part of the reason I left this job.
Another area I worked in was Meat Cutting. Where the cows get their shots in their hips is sometimes a big gross tumor type mass. We always refered to it as Cancer. We just cut it out and tossed it and went about cutting the rest of the steaks out of it. Not really sure what it was but it surely wasn't good. It occasionally would be in other cuts as well but mostly the hip. Makes you look at the flu shot a little different. Also Meat cutters often get warts from the beef. The company I worked for had a MD they would send you to that burned your warts off. I think they had him on a contract.
With that said I try to be very careful of what I eat but convenience often wins out.

WOW! Joppa, you have had really reinforced the importance of eating clean! I wasn't sold on organic--but in the case of meat--if the shots are causing the animals tumors/cancer type growths certainly there has to be a negative result to US from eating it.
LIvestock is shot full of hormones to make them grow faster--or in the case of dairy cows to make them produce more milk. Young girls are developing so much sooner--about six years sooner than I did. Plus, they are getting curvy younger. I just wonder if the hormones are causing that. I don't know.
I wish I could have organic milk delivered like Chicagoians. My local store doesn't even sell it. I have to travel about 30 minutes to buy organic. (it is looking more and more worth it to get organic foods).
I know high fructose corn syrup is horrible. I do ok sometimes avoiding it--and bad bad bad other times. After that pasta the hubby made for me I went a little off kilter and ate processed foods. I am back to clean eating today. It makes me so sad how much HFCS my kids eat. I use to think it was bogus--plus they are thin--so I didn't think it was necessary. Their meals are mostly clean but their snacks are processed. I am going to try to work on that. They love fresh fruit and vegetables so I will be sure to wash and slice it so that it is fast and ready to go.
OP I ordered the new Eating Clean Cookbook last night. I will let you know what I think of it.
