Planning my trip - airline question

Post by bill »

I am so excited, planning our trip for July! We have always flown American Airlines from NYC but am considering Spirit air. Do they change or cancel there flights frequently. Have heard they are not very reliable with their schedules and have cancelled flights. Thanks!

Can't tell you about Spirit, but there have been postings about them here, might have to go back a few pages. We're using Delta for next April. Have heard that Jet Blue is trying to get a gate at STT, but nothing def. yet.

Good luck. When are you going?
No ticker anymore. Next vac will prob. be the Fl Keys.

We have flown Spirit twice and once last yr. had a day changed on us. They scheduled us to go a day early...no biggie to us...I think its prolly something that all the airline will do and have done at some point. But I would have NP in booking them again and taking the same chance..Esp what we can save as compared to other airlines. I had checked earlier this week and for 4 was 1176.00 plus seats of course, out of Myrtle Beach with a 35 OFF coupon. Delta out of the same airport was about 540 each. We are members of the $9 club and I check them often to see whats available and Im sure I will book them when we get ready for a trip back to STJ....:)

Our pals are flying Continental from EWR next July. Pretty decent fares...$300 - $350 r/t as of right now.

Plus...it's non-stop.

Of course, if you have to cross 2 bridges, it may not be worth the travel/traffic hassle

Our description of Spirit starts and stops at "Moo!"

They pack you in and charge you for every single extra. Reserving seats are extra. But, if you can with no extras (we can) then they will be the cheapest. That helps when I'm paying for four.

airline question

Thanks for all your feedback. We are going in July. right now AA has a fare for $348. That would be the cheapest we ever paid. I think I may stick with them. That's non stop from JFK,

Been travelling to SJ for 21 years on AA. If u have a RT - NS for that money, book-it.

I would never fly Spirit again no matter what the price difference. Go to TripAdvisor and search for Spirit Air. They are unapologetically apathetic and have a true disdain for their customers. I would not gamble my vacation on them. $348 is a good price...

We flew Spirit for the first time in June...our stance is "NEVER AGAIN" unless the flight is direct. We stopped in Ft. Lauderdale both ways and it was a nightmare.

The STT flights go into the international terminal at FLL, which is quite small and has only two places to get food, and since it's the international terminal you can't leave to go somewhere else. The lines at both food places were pretty much always 30-50 people long. And the terminal itself was packed and uncomfortably busy, especially for 3 hour layovers.

Just remember that Spirit charges for your seat and for your checked luggage! I believe its $10 for an aisle and window and $5 for a middle. Luggage is cheaper if you book it online (15?) and approx. 10 more (25?) if you wait to pay at the airport!
