I have no idea if this would be something the baby would appreciate when she is older or not (definitley no good to her now) but I would have loved one
You can get her fingerprint or footprint engraved in a pendant - personally I think it would be cool when you are older to have one, then when she has children of her own, she could add to hers and wear multiples on a chain - maybe "goofy" but I love the idea

My godmother gave me a silver rosary with her intials, my initials, and the date on the back. She also gave me a gold children's ID bracelet with my name on the outside and hers on the inside. I still have the bracelet. I did a quick google but don't see anything like it--it's not a chain style, it is a solid band that has a very small button you push to open the hinge, and it's held together by another gold band that slides out, so an infant/child can't lose it.
Another idea is to give her a piece of jewelry that you can add to over the years, like an add a pearl necklace. They come in child/infant sizes, and the pearls can be tranferred to a larger chain when she gets older.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Waterguy - that is so touching. She sounds like a sweet young lady.
I've never been a god parent (we're Protestant and don't really do that alot - at least not in my family) but I've always liked the idea of a charm bracelet because you can add to it over the years with charms for special occasions or places. We got our daughter a sterling bracelet when she was young and sometimes I wish I had bought a gold one, because I'm hoping it's something she always has.
I like all the ideas in this thread!
