Charles Town, WV
My sisters and I are planning a mother/daughter get away the end of this month for my Mom's 70th birthday. My sister found a craft fair in this area and we're considering staying at the Carriage Inn in Charles Town, WV. Has anyone been to this area or live near by? Can you provide any insight on good restaurants or other things to do in the nearby area?
Trip Advisor gives excellent reviews for the B&B but if anyone has an input, as always, I appreciate the great mind trust that is this forum.
Thank you!

Well, you are right next door to Harper's Ferry. It's a pretty good couple hours spent at the John Brown museum. The race track at Charlestown has a zillion slot machines. Personally, if I was there I would head a bit further away west to Luray Caverns, as they are spectacular. Then I would work my way back on a scenic route to Flinthill and stop at a little place called Griffin Tavern. But don't listen to me as I always like to look around corners, and it gets me in trouble sometimes.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.

Nancy, the Carriage Inn is WONDERFUL!! Have stayed there numerous times and have never been disappointed. The rooms in the "original" house are fairly ornate while the rooms in the addition are more comfy and cozy. The town itself is very quaint and I highly recommend The George Washington Inn for dinner (if it's still open). The owners of the Inn can offer up some good places to eat as well. They are very nice folks! Mike & I love horse racing so we enjoy the races while we're there!
Harpers Ferry is about as sweet as they get, with lots of little shops and places to eat. The river is so beautiful there.
Can ya tell I like the area???? Have a BLAST and let us know how you liked the Inn.

Thanks for the tips, JT and Jan, thanks for the recommendation on Carriage Inn. we booked 3 rooms last night for the 6 of us. I'm looking forward to exploring somewhere new. I'll print these tips out and bring them with me.
I realized yesterday that the craft fair has wine tastings so I'm excited about that
As always, this forum is the best!

Mary,
We went to Harper's ferry & Charlestown last fall. We ate at a nice restaurant with a patio up the hill overlooking the train tracks. Can't remember the name, but the view was great. Just go up those stairs across from the parking lot. Loved walking around, great picture taking. As far as Charlestown, we just dropped in for the slots, no help there. It is a day trip for us, when is the crafts fair?
