Cruz Views vs Peaceful Cottage
I need to decide right away!
A Peaceful Cottage includes the use of a jeep (yes I checked the insurance issue). No view, no pool. We tend to get right up and out the door on vacation, though.
Cruz Views is just a hair more but with a pool. The pics look kind of yukky, though.
Any thoughts? We plan to come down for 9 days on Sept. 19th.

We haven't stayed at Cruz Views, but walked through in May to check it out. Pool was nice and views were nice. I love having a view when on STJ, so its important to me.
Question for those who have stayed at Cruz Views, was there construction noise from that big fancy complex up the hill? I read a review from someone staying at Cruz Views in 2007 and they noted how awful the construction noise was then. I wasn't sure if the construction is done now. I seem to recall seeing a bulldozer over there.
I am lobbying hubby for a trip in late Oct or early Nov. I am considering either Valley View or Cruz Views.
thanks

Thanks for the info!
Here's the homeaway listing for Peaceful Cottage: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p245759
Only $825/week including use of an island jeep. I've spoken with the owner and he seems like a really nice man! We could use the leftover cash for....well....spending on island.
I guess we'll decide tomorrow, but wanted to offer this info up for anyone trying to make a budget trip to the rock.

Cruz Views is not yucky at all.

Have stayed at Cruz Views many, many times over the years but not in the last 5 years or so. (After FINALLY having our LAST tuition payment! yeah!! we were finally able to 'up' to a villa with a private pool and view).
But I concur with a lot of the other comments. That a view, for me, is essential plus a pool--especially depending upon what time of year you are going.
At Cruz Views, we really used to like to stay in units #1 or #4 (perhaps #2?), perhaps SJfromNJ can clarify here as he/she posted that they recently stayed in #4. We preferred the units at the highest part of the complex because the views are, obviously, nicer the higher you go.
Plus, #1 had a spiral staircase rather than 1 of those very steep ladders to the 2nd loft bedroom plus had a nice large deck and it's own private parking spot right outside the front door access. #4 (or #2--whichever one I'm remembering--is the one that is in the same building as #1 but on the other side (corner). It had a very nice large wrap-around deck which we liked.
It isn't the Ritz but, at least for the several times we stayed there, it was a great value for St. John--sunset views, close to everything, communal BBQ we could use for 'cooking in,' nice pool that very few people used.

They call it Cruz Views for a reason! Great view for a great price we will most likely stay there for our upcoming trip. If that cottage would work for you Cruz veiws would be fine. Bookmarked that cottage looks nice for the price with a jeep, would work great in the cooler months. Your lucky it didn't have a/c or I might have stole it from ya.
