I liked the report. Bermuda is on our to-do list. We tried to go last minute a few years back but couldn't find a room, everything was booked.

That place you stayed looks cute. I will have to file that away for future consideration.

Thanks for the report and your photos are as usual great. Sounds like you had a good time even with all the replanning. Got to be flexible .

I remember from when we were there 1998 that the water was really ruff with strong currents. My husband was hit to the ground by a big wave and hurt his neck and had really trouble getting out of the water.

But the island is beautiful and I also remembering us on the Scooter including two golf bags, driving all over the island.

Would be nice to go back someday, but it's not really on my list at the moment.

Thanks for the report Becky. I always look forward to yours. Glad you had a great trip. I had my 40th birthday dinner at Mickey's. Eased the pain somewhat.

Guess who is scheduled to fly out of Logan to Bermuda tomorrow morning? And then guess which major PIA (and I don't mean our beloved Pia) hurricane is racing us there as we speak? Shoot. Due to the storm Jet Blue will allow us to rescedule at no charge so we may wait until Sunday and tack a couple of days on the end. Last night they were predicting 30-40 ft. waves to hit the eastern shore. How could Hamilton handle that? Bogles the mind.

Caribert, The Douglas place is Ariel Sands. Haven't ever stayed there but have always been curious.

I was wondering if you were still going! I think you are smart to wait a couple of days. The wave predictions are really high, sounds like you would not be able to swim.

Just as an FYI, Ariel Sands is closed, and has been for years. There was a plan to redevelop the spot as condos/time shares but there's been no movement on that. Michael Douglas does still own a home on the island though.

Becky, was Surfside the hotel that used to house a culinary school? I know there was one near there until farly recently, wasn't there?

Marcia - glad that you are able to delay your trip for a few days.

I think it was the Stonington Beach resort that was owned/operated by the culinary school. We never stayed there, but were shuttled to the beach one year when staying at the Rosedon.

Thanks Jayseadee! The Stonington was the one I was thinking of. I wish we had eaten at that restaurant while the school was still there.

BTW, MarciaMarciaMarcia was just my screen name! Funny, I used to use it on a local message board and some people around town still call me Marcia!

What a nice report and pictures. We went to Bermuda for our honeymoon many years ago, so this brought back memories. My husband collected coins since he was a kid and he was able to sell one of the collector item coins to pay for our honeymoon at the Southampton Princess. We didn't know about the joys of snorkeling back then, so I didn't even realize there would be decent snorkeling there. I was interested to read about the casual restaurants, since they were in short supply in the 80s (or we didn't know how to find them). I do remember it was a pretty island. We visited a garden that was just spectacular. Its such a short flight from Washington, DC area that I am definitely going to look into it again.
