"Rum Makes You Dumb" B-Day Trip Report - Part 1!
Tuesday, Aug 4 - Day Prior to Departure – Drink Count (2)
Proof positive that God has a sense of humor. The “Mayor of Red Town” pays an unexpected and early visit the day before our “romantic” vacation sans kids.
Ergo we have some last minute additions to the packing list. Three gazillion tampoons and ample supply of “happy pills” (a.k.a. Midol) to keep Cujo in her cage. Check, check.
Drink count: Two glasses of pinot to calm the beast.
Wednesday, Aug 5 – Day One – Drink Count (11) – Diversions from my uber-itinerary (1)
In attendance on trip:
• Myself (LandLockedBeachLover or LLBL) and the Hubs. This whole trip is for my big “4-0” celebration on Monday 8/10 in the BVI’s. One thing about me. I plan. I plan a lot. I love to plan a lot. We will call my day-by-day, hour-by-hour, uber-itinerary for the week just a *tad* aggressive. So be it. Have to make the most of it, right? Right? Anyone? Bueller?

• Two good friends of ours (who live together in sin
), both VI virgins. I will refer to them lovingly as our “cherries”.

We booked a 6 a.m. flight from St. Louis to STT through MIA using AAdvantage points (woo hoo), which in theory is AWESOME since we could arrive in STT by 2:45. The “cherries” are using “buddy passes” so they can fly AA completely for free on stand-by. The lucky ducks get first class on every leg, complete with free booze and meals. Meanwhile, back in steerage
, we have to PAY for our drinks. Of course that doesn’t stop me from drink count (1) of a horrible chard. In MIA, I indulge in 2 mimosas at the Island Time restaurant in the D gate area. Much to our chagrin, the flight to STT is, of course, delayed by one hour
. During the flight, the mom of a young family strikes up a conversation with us about STT. They have not been before and are staying at the Ritz. She was going to book a $190/pp sail trip to Cruz Bay St. John, so I told her to just take the $5 ferry from Red Hook and head to Trunk. She was much appreciative and then proceeded to ask for restaurant recommendations and other things to do on the island as well. This all was all a great diversion to the seemingly never-ending flight to the best dog-gone airport in the world!
We land at 3:45 and disembark to the very welcome smack of the hot, humid, salt-ridden air. God I love it SO much
! And what has happened to our happy rum punch stand? The best thing ever - - skip the punch and bring on the RUM SHOTS
! Drink count (2) since one of the “cherries” does not like her pineapple rum. We pick up our Avis rental car (lovely Ford Taurus), and the hubs speeds away for his left-drive experience to the Marriott. We make a quick stop at the Pueblo for some essentials – rum, wine, beer, cooler, cups, snacks – then head off to the Marriott. WOW, we got a completely kick-a** upgrade somehow! Top floor, two story room, two baths, spiral staircase, spa tub, frig, and ocean view if you look to the right on our patio! Cujo is nowhere to be found now (hubs happy).

So the uber-itinerary had us going up to the top of the St. Thomas tram for their Wednesday evening sunset party (I had 4 coupons printed for bushwackers also). However, we were comp’ed a happy hour at the Marriott in which we had 20 minutes left of it to enjoy. So we hoarded through the app line like a bunch of hungry hostages, piling on beef kabobs, caprese salad kabobs, smoked salmon, cheese & crackers and such. Add 4 more to the drink count now (all free; all chard; all for me).
By this time, we are HOT, full and ready for a night-time swim instead of trekking off again. Why oh why, does the rum bar at the pool close at 5:30? So the hubs goes back to the room for the rum and guava juice. Add another 2 on the drink count list. Much later on, we split a $16 burger at the Sunset terrace above the pool and call it a day. A very good day.
Tomorrow, the uber-itinerary calls for Coki, Magen’s, Udder Delight and Indigo for dinner!

I love how you say it:

My husband and I talk about that all the time! It is a God thing isn't it! When we come back from our trips my husband will randomly say he can still taste the salty air!
Love it! Can't wait for my turn in Dec!

You crack me up about taming the Cujo and you are quite brave to list how many drinks you par-took to get this uber b-day party started~~~ (I think I would have lost count at 4, yeah, 4 that's the ticket!)
Keep that uber-itenerary comin' LLBL!!

I started counting drink once--after that day I realized what the problem was, I needed a bigger glass!
Sounds like a great start! looking forward to the rest.
