Getting to Jost

Post by Heather »

We are finally going to go to Jost Van Dyke this trip - yea!! My husband thinks we could rent a small boat and get there ourselves but I'm not sure that's possible. I've only read about taking the ferry or a charter. Any advice?

Hi there
We've done the ferry and an excursion...Honestly the ferry was REALLY easy and definately the way we'll go next time. Not sure how it would work if you rented a boat and went on your own...someone on the forum may be able to give you information....

Yes you can rent your own bareboat but keep in mind that you will still have to do the whole customs thing and you will have to handle that yourself and you have to get back to STJ by 5pm to get back thru customs.

It's also advisable that you know what you're doing on open water before taking on this kind of trip.

The ferry would be a lot cheaper than renting your own boat for the day IMHO and for a first time you can get your bearings.
*Another fine scatterbrained production
