Costa Rica anyone?
Hey all- I know I should post my STJ TR before I start asking more questions...but...
So I'm planning a last minute trip to Costa Rica next month. I've never been and am not sure what part of the country I should be concentrating my efforts.
My travel partner is a diver, but I am looking for wildlife, hiking, zip lines, rafting etc.
Anyone have a recommendation on an area that accommodates the most activities? We don't want to do a great deal of traveling around the countryside every day...though we will have a jeep and I know that some traveling will be mandatory in an attempt to 'see it all.'
Thanks!

LOVE Costa Rica, went May 2008. We split our time between the Arenal Volcano area (ziplines, rapelling, hiking, close to rafting, hot springs, live volcano, etc) and the Osa Peninsula (most remote area of CR). How long do you have and which airport are you flying into? The diving/snorkeling in CR isn't the greatest. For a first timer, I'd recommend looking at Arenal and the Manuel Antonio area.
AVOID Tamarindo and Jaco. The former is crime-ridden and some friends of mine went last month and left after two nights. The latter is a haven for child prostitution.
I can send you my trip pics if you want. How long do you have?
PS - I believe someone on this board recently went to Jaco (maybe?) and liked it. I've heard some mixed things, and I do know that it's got it's share of crime/prostitution issues. I know ppl who've been there and liked it, but after my own research, I decided to skip it. So, it is only my OPINION to avoid Jaco.

Wow, Tamarindo a bad place--that is really too bad--we spent time in playa grande/tamarindo about 15years ago and it was a sleepy fishing town.....alw1977 wrote:LOVE Costa Rica, went May 2008. Alw- Thanks for the prompt response...would love to see your pics. I will PM you my email address. Thanks for the advice on spots to see and avoid.
I think my FF miles will dictate that I fly into San Jose. How far was the drive down to the penisula?
We are going to leave in about 6 weeks, stay 7-10 days, and must spend the majority of the time near the water for my travel partner to dive while I go do the really fun stuff!
