Help ID these photos?

Post by California Girl »

I'm trudging through editing a gazillion photos and I need help identifying some places. Either I've never been to these places, or they look different from the water. Help! :)

#1 - St. John - not a clue!
Image

#2 - Caneel, I think. Caneel Hawksnest? Scott?
Image

#3 - St. John - no clue
Image

#4 - Tortola, Soper's Hole?
Image

#5 Francis? What villa is that?
Image

#6 Caneel - what beach?
Image

#7 Cinnamon? What does the Oppenheimer house look like?

I am sure someone else can answer most of those questions for you but I think #2 is Scott Beach @ Caneel. #7 sure looks like the Oppenheimer house on Gibney beach, thats the right color and if you look to the right of it you will see the Gibney properties tucked into the palms.

Thats all I got!

I just changed my mind about #2...I think it IS Caneel's Hawksnest....too big for Scott!! and the buildings look right...there is a walk you can take to a point (Mary's Point?) from Hawksnest and that looks like it on the right where it is a bit open...

The last one sure looks like the Oppenheimer building to me.

Ok, is Gibney part of Cinnamon, then? Or are there other buildings at Cinnamon?

This is Cinnamon, is that the same building? What's the name of that little cay?

I sail this North Coast most days and can positively identify these for you-- since most STJ forumites are either at the parade, at the Village or sleeping off Jouvert here you go.
#1This is called Windswept Point - between Peter Bay and Trunk - the house is a Boulon legacy - not a rental villa.
#2Turtle Bay - one of the Caneel beaches
#3Hawksnest Point - East of #2 North of #6 - Henley Key on right --STT in the background - looking due West
#4Tortola - looking into West End -Sopers Hole across the Narrows of Drakes Passage
#5 Francis Bay - [don't know anything about villas]
#6Hawksnest at Caneel
#7Gibney beach - Oppenheimer House on left
6&7 could easily have been taken at the same spot facing different directions

Nice shots!! I hope you enjoyed the boat ride -- I can tell it was probably mid-winter --- it is so BROWN and dry -- these same pics today would be way different and show lush foliage glowing Green and filled with blooming orange Flamboyant Trees.

That is Cinnamon Bay - the building is the watersports center of the Campground. The Cay Is called Cinanamon Cay and is privately owned I believe.
Gibney Beach is one of the 5 sandy beaches within Hawksnest Bay - originally called Hognest Bay and [this is purely an assumption on my part] changed to Hawksnest in the Rockefeller / NPS era for a marketing reason -- even on the NOAA charts.

#5 is Frances Bay Estate. It's a beautiful 5 bedroom villa.

Thanks Diana! Wowie, what a location! I bet it gets buggy there, though.
