Pueblo Market on STT

Post by adkmts »

We plan on grocery shopping on STT before taking the car ferry to STJ. Does anyone recommend that we shop at Pueblo. I seem to have heard there are 2 of them---which one is closest to the airport and/or car ferry?
Also---where do we get the car ferry, Red Hook?
Thank you!

Car ferry is caught in Red Hook. You'll back onto ferry - be prepared to reverse into a potentially tight spot. Some people seem nervous about it, bu I've never encountered anyone that felt that they couldn't handle it.

There are 2 Pueblos. The one that is recommended by locals is the one in Havensight - across from Wendy's. There is another one somewhere on the East End - but I don't know where. The Havensight one is easiest to find. You might find better selection and quality as Marina market in Red Hook, Gourmet Gallery in Havensight, or the Cost-U-Less for things that you want in bulk (water, juice, soda, beer, rum) and for things that they sell out of bulk (fresh veggies, meats, fish). I'd skip Pueblo unless you really want a local experience or you are really trying to save $$$. Cost-U-Less won't be much more $$, but will offer a much better selection and quality, IMO.

CostULess is alongside the Home Depot near Tutu. You'll need a map and someone to tell you which route - not hard to find - relatively large signs.

I would also recommend the Food Center. It's on the way to Red Hook on the South side. Rigt after Pirate's Cove Marina.

PS Blu, the second Pueblo is by Sub Base. They closed the one in TuTu.

I second the Food Centre.
We have provisioned at both Pueblo's, the Marina Market, and Plaza Extra in TuTu. Food Centre has the best selection. Having said that, the produce and the deli are better at the Marina Market.

There is a Pueblo in Sub-base which I guess would technically be closest to the airport. It's not the best food shop on the island but would be fine for a quick stop for soda, water, beer, etc. If you are headed up the Crown Bay Road to the northside coming from the airport this would probably be the quickest stop other than the gourmet shop in Crown Bay Marina - I think that's the Gourmet Gallery ($$). If quick and close aren't the driving factors then the other Pueblo, Cost-u-Less and Food Center would also be my picks.
