Post by Iluvstjohn »

ok.....this is our 7th trip to st john....first time with only family in a villa. Last year was with grandpa on STT....in a "resort-y" type of place, so we ate out more. This time...we plan, and hope to do more villa gravity with the kids and eat in....
I need...
*pasta salad recipes.....
*grilling recipes
*stuff I will need for that....

I want to have some leisurely dinners on the deck...knowing that most days we'll be out and about and the kids will be SPENT.....

so any good marinades.....pasta salads?

Check the Off-topic forum.

There is a thread "Recipes for Chicagoans" that has some salad recipes; there is also a Food Porn thread (~90 pages) with all kinds of good recipes.

I'd give you my favorite things to cook on St. John, but I don't cook on St. John, so I'll be looking forward to your restaurant reviews.

Have a wonderful trip.

McCormick makes a Salad Supreme seasoning that I use for simple pasta salads. It works equally well with olive oil or mayo.

We always do a lot of grillin. The spices at St John Spice are my go to. Get some fresh fish (whatever is in season) flavor with fish spice and grill for a couple minutes. Goes well with grilled vegitables (also local and fresh) and and island rice. Some steaks with Cruz Bay grill rub are excellent. Some pork tenderloin with rosemary herbs, the combinations are infinate. Of course, somehow everything tastes better on the island! Wash it all down with a couple of pain killers and finsh with some fresh mango ... I am making myself hungary just thinking about it. Only 18 more days!!!

now THAT sounds like a plan....I plan on (and hope to fulfill) making my husband some good meals at the villa this time around. Sort of our "dinner out" at the villa...so I have been looking at stuff and trying to get ideas.....GREAT ideas! keep em coming!

Cruz Bay Grill Rub from STJ spice is the perfect villa cooking spice. The marinade on the bag is perfect, we had it on kebobs last night

It works great on any type meat and makes killer garlic bread, too.

You can pick up fresh greens from Josephine's in Coral Bay or at Starfish for a nice salad.

You are so right. We had spegetti with regular sause one night and it was the best spegetti we ever had. Also anything with Cruz Bay Grill rub from St. John Spice is excellent.
