How many days ahead to ship package?

Post by jhillss »

We are planning to ship a package ahead of time and we are curious about how many days ahead we need to send our package. We are planning to ship our package USPS priority mail. We will arrive on St. John Saturday, June 20. Is it too late to ship the package? We are planning to ship our package to Connections. We will call Connections tomorrow and let them know that we are planning to send the package. We also have the ship to address and from reading the forum understand that the address needs to be all caps with no punctuation except between the zip code and postal code. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have shipped a few times, just shipped one on Friday for our trip beginning June 19 - so 3 weeks out. I think in the past it has taken about a week to 10 days for mine to arrive, I can't really remember. Others have said more like 2 weeks. I figure 3 weeks is safe.

I have been told to ship USPS with Delivery confirmation, so that's what I do.

I do a lot of shopping online  and always it is shipped USPS Priority Mail - the average time is 7 to 9 days. The quickest I ever had anything arrive was 5 days and the longest was 6 weeks. Currently I am waiting on 4 Priority Mail packages and two were shipped 7 days ago and two 6 days ago - so any day now :)

Hope this helps

If mine takes 6 weeks, Pia and Ruth get to split the contents. Plenty of sunscreen ... you will have to duke it out for the swim diapers!

We did this and the package arrived in just over 2 1/2 days. Keep in mind that Connections closes early on Saturdays ( 1:00? ). That was our problem. We arranged for the management company to pick up the package. The other option is to wait until they open on Monday.

I shipped 3 pkgs. in April ... gave it 2 weeks to arrive since Easter holiday was included. Packages got there within 48 hrs. of leaving the CT post office ... amazing. We shipped to Connections for Management Co. They picked up and boxes were in villa when we arrived. Make sure boxes are sturdy and tape corners, bottom, etc. They do get beat up on the way. Only one box (of pasta) opened up ... sunscreen, etc. stayed intact. You can print the labels off at the USPS website and they will have all the bar codes, etc. Then take boxes to post office, pay, and off they go.

We shipped ahead for our last trip. Sent the box on a thursday and it arrived the following tuesday.

I put anything that could leak in double ziplock bags. The box was pretty beat up, but no damage to contents.I used alot of tape on the box as well. I used all CAPS and black sharpie to address, someone on forum said that that helps to get it there faster.

Have a great trip.

Recently, our mail has tended to be a bit slower. We lost of of our air carriers, so I'm sure that has an effect. Two weeks ahead should be enough. I too have had things take 2 days and other things up to 6 weeks.
If you can, use the flat rate Priority Mail boxes to ship heavier items (like sunscreen). They are a good deal in most cases. Also, if you use USPS issued boxes, and their online Click N Ship postage/labels, it tends to speed things along. BTW, the 6 week box was packaged in a box that the USPS uses to box their Priority Mail boxes. I'm sure it sat around in their stock room for weeks thinking it was a box of boxes for their post office before they realized that it had an address and postage on it.

I know Del Christensen has been working on this issue and there was an investigation into the delays. There were assurances that the delay issues would be fixed.

Sounds like the processing times are all oevr the place though! To be safe I'd aim for 2 weeks ahead.
*Another fine scatterbrained production

We shipped a package USPS from Bellevue, Washington to Connections in Cruz Bay. We shipped priority mail with receipt requested. Package was shipped on a Saturday afternoon and arrived the following Friday! Less than a week from Washington state -- WOW!

I have a question about this. Is it ok to ship things like bug spray in the metal cans?

FYI - I shipped my box on Friday, May 29 and it arrived this weekend. Just got an email from Christy's confirming they received it. The delivery confirmation on the USPS still only says "Your item was accepted at 11:00 AM on May 29, 2009."

I was getting a little nervous then I got Crystal's email.
