Cat Charter Peeps! Help me with our bags please!

Post by chrisn »

There seems to be something wrong with me...I haven't started packing yet!

Since I know several of you have done cat charters, I wanted to ask here before I hop over to TTOL. CA Girl, Syd, etc; Getting close now, just 3 1/2 weeks! Since we're week long charter newbies, I need some guidance on packing.

We usually do carry-on with the small rolling soft suitcases. Do you think these will work for storage on the cat or do we need to re-think and do duffles or something that smashes down smaller?

Maybe this depends on the cat, idk but as a general rule, what do you guys think?

Also, anything you can think of to tell me to bring/pack as a heads up for this adventure would be appreciated as well!

Any of you have trouble with nausea? Any non-med suggestions just in case?

So excited and a little anxious too. Like holy sh*t, what did we get ourselves into???

Hopefully we'll see some of you on STJ in June for the second week.

Woo-hoo! As always, it's been a long time comin baby!!!

Hi Chris! We took one largish rolling computer bag and 2 duffels - a med sized one and a huge one. The smaller duffel and the computer bag fit in the cabinet under our bed, and although it was a roomy cabinet, you really couldn't have gotten a larger hard-sided suitcase through the opening.

I'm certain it depends on the particular boat. Kellee's cabin had more storage than ours, for instance so I can't even compare on our own boat! LOL!

I recommend all duffels, they can be pushed and shoved just about anywhere, which is a big plus.

You will probably be in your bathing suit every day. Take several (oh, Bikini Queen that you are! )

Aside from that, a couple pairs of shorts, some tops, & something to cover you up from too much sun. You really get a lot of reflected light on the water and you are more subject to getting burned, even if you don't normally burn.

Take some extra towels, your provided towels get a little mildewy smelling by the end of the week and it's nice to have a fresh one.

Take some wet towelettes (like baby wipes) for personal touch-ups - you'll be glad you did. :D

If I think of anythinge else I'll post it! :D

You're gonna' have an awesome trip!

Definately duffel bags. They can be unpacked into the cabinets then stuffed away. less less is more. Take half the stuff and twice the money.:) You only need three bathingsuits, one to wear one to wash out and hang on the rail and one in case it blows off. Actually the three usually works for shorts as well. You will likely buy tshirts along the way so you don't have to pack alot of them. Maybe one "outfit", like dressy shorts or skirt and decent shirt if you are planning on going ashore for a "dress up" dinner some place. Most places you will eat a shore will be beach bars and shorts and a T Shirt will do fine. Also bring a pair of beach sandals and a pair of nonmarking boat shoes for the boat. That is all the shoes you will need.

I have never done one but it is planned for the near future - you know, in the next 10 years  but I did read a thread on this topic and I remember someone listed pegs (clthes pins) to clip laundry to the rails - don't know if you need them or not but that was an item I remember as I knew I would not have thought about taking something like that.

Yes! Clothespins! I took a pack and Sydney already had a ziplock bag (cue: Vicki) full of them, which I dumped on the deck, of course! LOL!

Clothespins are invaluable!! Plastic ones work good.

Was planning on each taking a beach towel.

Take some wet towelettes (like baby wipes) for personal touch-ups - you'll be glad you did. :D

Great tip!

Isn't that the truth!

and a pair of nonmarking boat shoes for the boat.

Like the butt ugly Crocs in the back of my closet?

That is all the shoes you will need.

And here's a tip from Kellyanna, which she posted on the Cat 5 thread:

For sea/motion sickness, I have used the wrist bans available in most drugstores with the pills. It works on an acupuncture point on your wrist. The nice thing is no drugs! They put me to sleep. They look like hair scrunchies...

Cover-ups and sun dresses will be your best friend. Kellyanna will second this. She brought a whole bag of t-shirts and shorts, she never wore. I bring one pair of shorts and one skort, and the rest are coverups and sundresses.Cool & comfort are the name of the game.

Good luck and have fun.

Which company are you chartering from?
