trip report april 26-may 3 the end and more pics

Day 7 Saturday may 2

Today was another Spectacular day. We decided to go the east end this morning. We started off the drive around 8:30 and as we were leaving coral bay we saw 3 boys walking with life jackets. I figured they were in the sailing school and I was right. More on that later. Anyway we found haulover parked the jeep and followed the trail over to the north side. It was a little rough so just my husband went out. He said he did not see too much. Then we went over to south haulover and snorkeled there. It was nice we did both sides and saw a huge barracuda. We also saw sting rays in the center. We stayed in the water for a long time then relaxed on the beach for a while. We headed to Vi's but she was closed. So we started back to coral bay. I need to print our boarding passes after 1:12, we go to connections around 12:45 so we just waited. I saw those same 3 boys again and started talking to them about the sailing school. They were so sweet. They were counting their money trying to get enough to spilt a grilled cheese sandwich from skinnys. They were a little short so we gave them a $20 so they could each get their own. They were very happy. After they got their lunch I talked with the a little longer then went and got my boarding passes printed. We ate lunch at the aqua bistro, I had the grouper sandwich and my husband had the chicken sandwich both were good. We then headed out to little lameshur. We snorkeled for a while saw another sting ray. Algae plum was pretty bad there. The beach was beautiful. Then it was back to the villa to start packing. We ate up the leftovers and called it a night.

Day 8 - home.

I did not want to leave. I started crying. We packed up and were on our way to cruz bay by 8:30. I dropped my husband off by the ferry and I returned the jeep. I was planning on taking the 10 redhook ferry, but Keith bought tickets on the 9:15 downtown ferry. I was walking back to the ferry dock slowly because I did not want to leave when I heard him yelling hurry up. We just made it. I wanted to look around cruz bay for a while, but that didn't happen. Once in STT we had a little while before the airport, we were looking for a bathroom and finally found one. Everything was closed because carival ended the night before. We did find Glady's and she was open so we had lunch before going to the airport. It was very good. Got to the airport in plenty of time, no lines in security. Very sad to leave.

To sum it up we had the vacation of our lives. Every thing was perfect. We thanked God everyday for what we had. My husband was back at work one day when he found out that his job was being eliminated. He was with the company 6 years, but that was not long enough. So now the job hunt has begun. I am so grateful that we had our trip before all this happened. We loved st john and will be back as soon as we can.

the underwater photos were taken with our old kodak digital camera in a waterproof bag that I bought from the water proof store. It worked great. The only problem was you just had to point the camera and hope you got something.

Thanks for listening to my trip report.

Nancy,
So sorry about the job. That stinks.

I am so glad you got to go on the trip before that happened and you were able to enjoy every minute.

I hope things look up soon.

nancyG...just finished reading the whole TR and really enjoyed following along...saw all the pics as well. The one of the two donkeys with the blue, blue eyes is so funny and unique; the ruins perspectives with the arches and of course the Coral Bay sunrises...all so neat. Thanks for taking the time to post it all.
I hope that the job situation is better or will be very soon.

Great pics..underwater look good for a waterproof bag..I have thought of getting one since I can't justify an underwater camera. What store did you get it from? Online?

This is where I bought the underwater bag http://store.thewaterproofstore.com/index.html

I have a old kodak camera that we used in case the bag did not work. Everything worked fine. You do need to hold the bag tight over the lens while taking pictures. Also you could not see the lcd screen so you just had to guess at what you were taking. We just pointed the camera and snapped pictures.

I'm so sorry about your hubby's job, and hope that his search for his all time favorite job is brief!
I wish I'd thought of bringing an old camera and the bag! We have several old digital cameras sitting around. Well, now I know for next time.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Great TR!

I just used the waterproof camera bag (the one with the extended zoom lens space) and it worked like a charm. Still had to take lots of pics since I couldn't really see the subject too well on the LCD screen.

Best of luck on the job search.
