Just wondering Eleuthera
Just wondering Eleuthera
We are heading to St John on Saturday. I was wondering if any of you travel nuts have been to the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Looking to next summer. Found a new beautiful house on the beach for a great price. We love St John but I like to try new places too.

I went to Eleuthera quite a few years ago, renting a house on the beach near Governor's Harbour. I have also been to Harbour Island (on the same trip years ago), off the northeast coast of Eleuthera.
The beaches in Eleuthera were great (they really are pink), and the people were friendly. Houses are on the beach and somewhat reasonable in price. There was not quite enough going on in Eleuthera (restaurants, bars) for me to want to return, but thats just a personal preference. You might love the absence of activity. I have often thought of going back to Harbour Island ----wonderful small island----but then I fell in love with St. John. Have also thought about Great Exuma, which looks, well, great.

Eleuthera and the Bahamian Islands in general are flat and dry with very beautiful sandy beaches and very shallow clear water - for quiet privacy and simple sun and sand they are really hard to beat - very few of them have a restaurant scene and very, very few of them have any entertainment that you don't create for yourself - They are romantic for a couple and fine for a family with younger children - St John has so many varied activities available it is not a very fair comparison - there are not really any places on St John that can compare to a house on the beach in the Bahamas and absolutely no where in the Bahamas that can offer what St John has.
Hi Nancy,
I posted some photos from an '06 (?) Eleuthera trip in this thread:
