Is lavender Hill too expensive? What about Battery Hill? They are both within walking distance of Cruz Bay and have pools.

In addition to VRBO I like HomeAway.com. Many of the same listings but some are different and a nicer format.

Gymnastika,

You may very well want to check out Lavender Hill. Unit 3W is a 2 bedroom unit with a loft and wrap around deck overlooking Cruz Bay. They have a pool and grill right there, free laundry, WiFi, full kitchen, and the rates are pretty good. For the amount of time you are staying I would bet they would cut you an awesome deal. They will work on pricing with you. They have for us.

I have stayed in 1W and this year we will be staying in 2W and 5W. They are very nice and clean and help you out with anything you need.

Two minute walk to Cruz, not even if you walk like I do.

Just a little suggestion.

It looks very cute but have not seen it in person :)

I would think that you could rent that easily for the whole month of August for what you want to spend - that to me would be a good deal. August is a very sloooow month on island and I would think in this economy they would give you at least the off season rate (the lowest rate) plus a small discount for the whole month (with it being one of the slowest of the 3 months of the year).

I have heard of many people who are negotiating the off season rates during peak season - some sucessfully some not. I know my family have for just a week in June - they offered less than the low season rate with no 8% tax on a villa (beautiful villa btw) and it was accepted.

I was thinking about this yesterday and I was thinking that maybe you should contact as many villas as you can (I find the ones rented directly from the owner not a villa rental company are the villas that are more flexible on price) that are available and offer them the month rental and if they turn you down be very polite and leave them your number should they change their mind closer to the date - I think you might get a few calls back - $4,000 to $6,000 vs $0 will be very appealing to many as the time approaches - just something to think about.

Good luck

Pia

I would check Grande Bay - no pool, but in town with parking. Kim Morris at 340-998-1978.

Thanks, Toes, those looked interesting. We still need broadband internet or it's a deal breaker. Also, 2 bedrooms and some kind of pool access. I really appreciate you looking, and geez, the price is right!!! WOW! $1400 for one month sounds nice if it would have worked. But you know, beggers can't be choosy. I'm gonna have to figure something out....

your villa

I just wanted to suggest to you that when you find a place, don't post it on the forum. A month is a long time, and you don't know how many weirdos could be lurking on the forum, who would like a nice laptop or what ever else they can get their hands on.

Our SOTB gang never posts where we are staying. Being just women, it's a little scary,

Have you seen this place?:
http://www.stjohnapartment.com/

I don't know about their availability, but it's 3 bedrooms all with their own baths, full a/c, and a pool starting at $175/night.

The only downside is that there are no water views.
