martini girl trip report Part ? 2/3/07-2/10/07 - Trunk Bay

Post by martini girl »

We decided to go to Trunk on this morning...got there probably 10:30ish, not too crowded, however, the waves were huge! It was like being at the Jersey shore except the water was aqua blue and clear instead of murky green/brown and yuck. The kids were having a blast with some boogie boards we had brought from the villa. The lifeguard explained the Northern Swells to us so we had a better understanding of the waves.

The huge influx of people began shortly thereafter. It was amazing to be able to look up to the lookout area from the beach, see all the taxis lined up, and then about 10 minutes later, swarms of people streamed onto the beach, all wearing their Carnival Cruise Lines badges around their necks. This went on for quite some time, but it really didn't bother us. We commented on how spoiled we were by the lack of people on Francis or Maho, and then we get to Trunk and see all these people on the beach. In reality, the "crowded" conditions on Trunk were just a fraction of the "crowded" conditions we find on the Jersey shore in the summer, so it really wasn't bad at all. Perhaps we waited about 10 min. in line at the snack shack to get the kids some ice cream, but it was tolerable.

I think this is a picture of the girls on Trunk, the waves died down after awhile, but it was still a little too rough for us to do the underwater snorkel trail...maybe next trip. (I think I finally figured out how to post some photos!)

Anyway, while on Trunk, we were sitting next to a woman whose brother owns the Lime Inn. She was super nice and we told her how we had just been to the Lime Inn and how great the food was...we really enjoyed our meal there.

We stayed on Trunk till about 5 pm, the crowds really died down after 3:00, so we enjoyed the last few hours of sunshine with significantly less people-traffic than earlier in the day! We ate dinner that night at Panini Beach. What a great place that was. We were seated at a table next to the railing, overlooking the water lapping onto the beach. Very peaceful, great food, nice ambiance.

We decided to get into Cruz Bay about an hour earlier than our 7 pm dinner reservation to check out some shops. We were especially interested in checking out Coral Bay Jewelry/Jewelers(?) to look for the St. John Hook Bracelets. Well, when we got to the store at about 6:05 pm, the owner had closed up and was loading things into his car, looking to be on his way home. We stopped him to chat, he indicated that he and his wife had a cold and were closing up early that day. Disappointed, we asked him what time he's normally opened until and what about tomorrow's hours? He indicated they'd be open till 8 pm the next day. So we planned on going back the next night before dinner.

We checked out St. John Spice (wonderful!!) picked up some T-shirts and coffee and proceeded to Panini Beach for dinner.

Here are some pictures from our day trip to the Baths and Sandy Cay

Great pics. Yeah, crowded is a relative term huh? I'd rather pay at Trunk anyday over paying for a day at Ocean City :P
