Leaving on March 10th!!!

Post by Buddles »

We will be leaving on Saturday from Boston on a direct flight to St. Thomas.

I am armed with the National Geographic Map, Feet, Fins & Four-Wheel Drive and Off the Beaten Path. We will be staying at Coconut Coast. We did not want or need a villa. It is just the two of us and we enjoy meeting other people when we travel. We have simple needs, someplace clean with a refrigerator. The porch on the water is a definite plus.

We have booked two trips. On Monday we will be taking the New Horizons II trip to the Baths and Jost Van Dyke. Later in the week we are going out for a half day snorkeling trip with Sadie Sea Charters.

I want to thank all the posters - especially for all those wonderful trip reports and the best snorkeling spots. I'll keep a diary and post my trip report when I return.

I pulled out our packing list from our trip to Grand Cayman last year - also a snorkeling trip. The only thing we had to add was a flashlight. We did have to omit our dressy going out to dinner clothes. ;) I'll post my list if anyone is interested.

I guess my only question that I haven't seen answered elsewhere is if there is parking at the Starfish Market?

thanks,

Buddles

You sound ready - have a great trip. There is a huge parking lot at Starfish - for the whole Market Place. Probably the biggest parking lot on St. John - and free.

Buddles,

Have a GREAT time! Yes, there is parking at Starfish, and I would love to see your list - you never know when someone might have something you never thought to bring.

Do not forget to add ear plugs to your list!!! Especially around the Coconut Coast neighborhood...there are roosters that like to get up on the middle of the night!!!

Man, I wish we heading down there! No set date, though I'm not sure how long we can stand this winter, though the worst seems to have passed.

Suzi - On two of our last four vacations, Key West and Bodden Town in Grand Cayman, we had resident roosters. It will feel like old home week!!!!

The packing list I use is at http://www.garvin.us/STJ/New_Visitors_G ... ml#Packing.

There's a few extras I like to bring.
  • Water stone for sharpening house knives
Ground coffee – the good stuff
Kan Kooler – keeping those cold while floating in the ocean
    Stash of zip lock bags
    CDs
    MP3 player with patch cord
The Kan Kooler/Koozy is the most important. I have a new one I really like.

I do wish we were going to be on island the week of the 5th. We leave to come home on May 4 and will miss the insane dangerous party week.

WOW!! That's quite a list. I got it down to a tote and small wheeled carry-on, and I still have room for a neat sheet and a 1/2 gallon thermos type thing with a shoulder strap. I plan on mixing my favorite "cocktail of the day" in the morning before we leave and having a nip or two as needed. Actuallly, I have two of them, but my daughter has to carry her own. We leave March 12.
