Thank you very much for the kind words, everyone! I am glad you have enjoyed our trip as well.
A few answers/clarifications:
*Caneel Trailside Cottage isn't actually affiliated with the Caneel resort. It is located right on the Caneel Hill trail (hence the name) up from Cruz Bay in the Pastory neighborhood off of Centerline Rd. We thought the location was super convenient! The website is http://www.caneeltrailside.com
*We didn't have any complaints about neighborhood noise. Our first night, Saturday, we could hear someone in the neighborhood playing some music and having some kind of get together, but it wasn't bothersome - it was actually fun reggae music that quickly put us into island mode. The villa shares a driveway with another villa (Villa Tamarindo, I believe) and once in awhile we could hear those guests moving deck chairs or closing the doors on their jeep, but again nothing bothersome to us. Also thhere are some dogs in the neighborhood, so in the morning once the roosters started in a dog would occasionally bark as well. Perhaps other guests at Caneel Trailside have had other negative noise experiences, but our visit was all good!

Loved the trip report!
It's funny, I bought some gorgeous avocados from Lily's Market in Coral Bay early in our trip, and never got around to using them.

Thanks so much for the detailed trip report! I can almost envision it! I laughed out loud when the ray and the barracuda made you turn around. I'm SO like that...."that's cool....how neat....Oh GEEZ I'm outta here!"
So the no-seeums aren't confined to the beach? I had the impression that as long as you were off the beach at sunset, you'd be in the clear. My hubby is a biting insect attractant, so I'm glad I learned that!

We did make reservations for the Wayward Sailor about a month prior to our trip. I had emailed Capt. Phil and asked his opinion on taking a 4 yr old and 7 yr old and whether he suggested a half-day or full-day sail. I was very impressed that he didn't immediately suggest the higher price full-day sail and then just let us deal with our kids if they got tired/bored/crabby. Instead he suggested a morning half-day sail and it turned out to be just right.
Capt. Phil mentioned that many people just call him up once they are on island and pick a day to sail, so that is an option, but we wanted to be sure to secure a half-day morning trip, so we reserved in advance.
We had a great experience on our morning sail, and I would recommend the Wayward Sailor to anyone!
