marys creek snorkeling

Has anyone snorkled in Mary's creek. The villa where wer stay sits right across the street from Marys creek. Never snorkeled there, but it's so close. Any ideas if there is anything to see?

It can be pretty windy. I've seen some good wind surfing there, but have not snorkeled it.

So, why did I reply to this post if I don't know? Curious.

Can you see Waterlemon Cay from there? That is one of the best snorkling. I've always thought Mary's Creek is pretty shallow. Good for bonefishing though.

We sailed out on the Pepper several summers ago. Very rough getting over from the boat but awesome snorkeling. Very deep around the point, great coral "rings" to swim through. Made me feel we were in a huge aquarium. The tarpons were fabulous - a big school that silently swam by us. I loved this snorkel!

You can't see waterlemon cay from the villa. Maybe from the water in marys creek. Annaberg point sticks out further. and yes, the water appears very shallow sometimes, but dinghies do come in there and beach, in a little sandy area. I wonder what the snorkeling would be like around the far edge of mary creek out to the end of marys point? I think they call it annas point.

Hey DJJ, we stayed at Villa Serenity once and wondered the same thing. The property manager said it was to shallow in places and a shark nursery. Heck, maybe it's the best and they don't want us to know I hereby volunteer YOU to try it out!

We're staying up the road from villa serenity. Same manager. She was out of town during our last visit, so I never asked her. Good idea though for this time. I'm an RN and used to work in the nursery. We never liked random visitors. So just in case the sharks feel the same way about their nurseries, I don't think I'll visit.

I have a memory (and I'm never sure what they're worth) of snorkeling in Mary's Creek a couple times on our first trip to the island in the 80s. Not too close to Francis. Coming from Maho camps we walked a little way along Leinster Bay Road, beyond the intersection with north shore road then went out. There were some mangroves around. It was shallow for quite a ways out, then it dropped off and there was a nice little reef. It was very good snorkeling, although could be a bit rough.

We tried it again years later and either my earlier memory was faulty or the shallow area had really filled in with sea grass. We had hard going getting out and gave up on it.

The inner part of the Creek is not great. The water tends to be murky. You can go in at the base of the creek and swim all the way out to the east side of Mary's Point, but it's a long swim. I would go in right by Annaberg instead and go around the outside of that very shallow reef there. It's pretty easy to swim across to Mary Point from there, or go east towards Leinster. Plenty of baby sharks in the shallows of the creek, but I've never seen mama....

Are you still staying at Honeymoon Cottage? We're just down the road from you at Villa Serenity.
There was a car parked on the side of the road next to Mary's Creek the other day. Just down from where it was parked is an opening to access the water. We have not snorkeled there, but sure enjoy watching the pelicans plunging. We too are nurses.
