Airport To Red Hook

Post by vav »

Besides traffic, how easy is the ride from the airport to the Red Hook car ferry?

After you pick up your bags from baggage claim (if you've checked any) there will be vans lined up out side. Tell one of the guys you want to go to Red Hook. They will pack you in the van (like sardines) and when it's full , off you go. They may make stops on the way to drop people off at various hotels, etc. so figure that in to your time.
We always ask if the downtown ferry is running because we prefer that. Shorter cab ride and longer ferry ride.
Also something else to consider Carnival will be in full swing then so STT will be packed.
Are you driving yourself or taking a taxi?

The drive from the airport to Charlotte Amalie is very easy, taking Airport Road and turning left onto Route 302 at the East end of the runway. This very shortly T's with Route 30 (turn right-East). In CA you have 3 choices: Turn left onto Mafolie Road (Route 35 - North) which is uphill to the Route 40 intersection. (This is the scenic way to Red Hook). Turn right and follow the skyline drive until it T's with Route 38 and turn left. The second option is to continue along the bay front in CA until just before Havensight Mall and turn left onto Route 313 (interesting intersection). This will intersect with Route 38 East (both intersections have small Red Hook signs with arrows). This route will take you past K-Mart and Cost-U-Less if you plan on doing any shopping. The 3rd option is to continue past Havensight on Route 30 following the Southern part of the island until it T's withRoute 32 - turn right.
In a nutshell, all roads East lead to Red Hook. Just remember to drive on the left side of the road, and if the person driving behind you is in a hurry, pull over (to the left) when you can. It helps to have a good navi/gunner to help keep watch. Enjoy!!!
Life is an adventure.
Treasure each moment.
