Update: Recent Experience with Passport Turnaround time?

Post by flip-flop »

Anyone got a recent turn around time for a new passport and/or renewal?

We are approaching 5 weeks since we sent off the paperwork for the little ones and have heard NADA.

When I went to check the State Dept site today it said down for maintanence and unless you are going somewhere in the next 14 days to check back later.

Just want to be sure I shouldn't worry...yet.

Flip Flop - We applied for three of them in February in Rhode Island. We received them in less than 2 weeks. We even used different post offices on different dates and the turnaround was about the same.

I would keep checking but wouldn't worry yet.

My renewal was so fast that's what's got me worried. I didn't expedite, but they cashed my check in about 2 days ... so I know they have it!

I'll wait until were about 6 weeks out and then PANIC.

Hi Flip,

This only applies to a few people, but just in case:

If your last name has a Mc or Mac or something like that at the beginning, check your last name on the site with and without a space after the first few letters. My name has a Mc, with no space, and after several weeks I was concerned that we still weren't in the system. Then I typed it in wrong, with a space, and sure enough there we were.

Good luck and I don't think you need to worry yet. (But the ticker is looking good!)

OK I just had a D'OH moment!

I know your last name because you kindly sent me your villa spreadsheet.

Maybe that tip will help someone else.

I need chocolate.

flip flop, my husband and I applied about a month ago and have not received ours yet. I too have tried the website and it has been down for maintenance for a few days. I didn't think it would take this long, because last year my son went to Russia and got his within a week and a half. Hopefully we'll all receive them within the next week or so.

I applied and received mine back in about 9 days back in late Jan/ early Feb. My wife applied later and we're still waiting- getting very nervous, we're now just about three weeks out.

On-line site now down so I tried calling numerous times- each time their recording said to call back later- too busy. Tuesday p.m. I finally got through to hold- held for almost an hour- I finally hung up. Wednesday a.m. I called right at 8:00 am eastern and did the hold thing for about 10 minutes- finally got through to a warm body. The guy said they were bombarded with last minute applications for spring breakers. I told him our travel date which he noted on her app. He somewhat assured us we would have her passport in time.

The bigger problem is they still have her birth certificate- the passport we can do without if we don't do the BVI's. No birth certificate could be a real issue. Still very nervous. Should be able to get a certified copy of her birth certificate- but that could be an adventure too.

I am glad its just the kids passports because both can get in to USVI without them and I don't plan to take them to the BVI (that's what gramma's are for).

Still waiting. I am thinking they do prioritze by departure date and thus I may be waiting in line behind all those spring breakers you speak of...

Clearly posting here makes things happen. Got my daughter's renewal today in the mail. Still waiting on the little guy's first ever. It will be 5 weeks tomorrow I think.

Update: Got the boy's passport on Monday. 5 weeks and 2 days for processing of a new passport. Apparently worrying makes them come.
