Joshie,
I just rented that about a month ago to show my girls. That is one of my all time favorites also!

Other favorites include Defending Your Life, Galaxy Quest. Blades of Glory. The dumber, the better.

Except I don't really like Jim Carey.

And everything comes to a standstill in our house if Mommie Dearest is on. My husband LOVES that movie. Really!

We aren't too serious around here.

Well if we're allowed to add, then "Monty Python, in Search of the Holy Grail."
What is the air speed velocity of a St. John Swallow?

Bridgekeeper: What... is... the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? I... I don't know that [he is thrown over the edge of the cliff] Auuuuuuuugh!!!
Sir Bedevere: How do know so much about swallows?
King Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

:D After jmq's response on swallows I had to go back and reread the question...

Reading your choices left me thinking...do I have favorites??? It is hard to pin down so few...

Les Miserables (the play...just realized that I need to rent the movie)
Out of Africa
Rome Adventure (badly dating myself and based on nostalgia not intellect)

"I dreamed a dream" from Les Mis
"Al di la" from Rome Adventure
"I will always love you"

...seem to be a traveling, somewhat sad romantic...
... no longer a stranger to paradise

this is a great thread! unfortunatley, i don't have favorites and suffer from taste add- i like certain things at certain times depending on my mood. here are some highlights...

movies:

out of africa
jaws
the color purple
bring it on!
the painted veil
better off dead
blades of glory

i've seen the color purple several times and i still cry hysterically when the children are reunited with whoopie near the end. big, big emotion.

music:

"a kiss to build a dream on"- louis armstrong (our wedding song!)
"beyond the sea"- bobby darin
"back in black" (album)- ac/dc
"dark side of the moon" (album)- pink floyd
"kind of blue" (album)- miles davis
"last splash" (album)- the breeders
"violent femmes" (album)- violent femmes
beethoven's fifth
piano concerto (?)- mozart

One of my all time fav tunes is “Blue Sky” by the Allman Brothers.

As for films, I also really like some of the Stephen King stories that have been turned into movies like Shawshank, Stand By Me, and Green Mile.
Also really enjoy most of the films that Tom Hanks has been in and most of the Coen brothers films for their combo of good acting, idiosyncratic stories and great cinemaphotography (Fargo, Raising Arizona, O Brother etc.)

This is embarrassing, but every couple of years, with the right buzz, I love to watch The Water Guy.

I also love Message in a Bottle.
