Calling all forumites!!! Input wanted for our villa cookbook

Post by Jan&MikeVa »

Okay, all this recipe sharing has gotten me off my %*! and into high gear!!

I have been working on a recipe/cook book for the islands for a couple of years. The book will be for villa/condo vacationing, along with a section on bareboating. A non-cooking (or take-out) section is important because not all of us cook at the villa. I've been dragging my feet posting something on the forum, but I think it's time.

I am planning to have it ready the first of next year. I have 2 trips planned to STJ this year and have some things on island to final up. So this gives us plenty of time to collect your ideas and recipes. Here are the categories thus far:

Appetizers
Beverages (Cold, Hot, Non-Alcoholic version incl w/recipe)
Breakfast
Lunch
Entrees (Meat, Seafood, Vegetarian)
Accompaniments
Miscellaneous
Deserts

For a Crowd
Pack a Picinic
Take-Out Meals
Menu Suggestions (Breakfast, Lunch, Entrees)
Bareboating

CONTRIBUTORS:
SOURCES: (incl. where to buy specialty items, and must bring from home items)

So here's what you can do:
Email me direct: mds9@cox.net Subject Reference is RECIPE.
Send me ANY ideas, recipes, notes, suggestions, whatever!!
Give me your name & email address so I can be in touch with you.
Pictures are appreciated. Also if you have a special or funny story that can go with the recipe please include it.
We are trying to keep the recipes simple (not a lot of ingredients) and "tropical", but we'll take any of your ideas.
All recipes should have been tested by you, and hopefully are a "villa favorite".

Our plan is to distribute the book by mid 08'. If we do, ALL contributors will get freebies! If we don't publish I'll be asking for donations in the form of copy paper & postage!!

Again, we're in the early stages so all your input now is most appreciated!!

This will be fun, oh & BillinVa, will Sandie share her salad dressing recipe????

Excellent idea Jan! I thought about a forum recipes cookbook, but I don't have the initiative you have! LOL!

I have a couple of good ideas, but will let you know if they qualify as good "villa recipes" after we get home!

69 days to go!!

What a great idea!! I am not a gourmet chef by any stretch, so I don't have much to offer, but I would be more than happy to donate $$ to the effort. I go to ST John Spice for teapots, magnets, coasters, etc. I have no idea what kind of spices and rubs to buy. It will be fun to learn from all the experts.

As an aside, there is a book entitle "St John Style" chock full of recipes compiled by Gretchen Lebrenz. It is a compilation of recipes from some local folks.

I have a half dozen relevant recipes that are stand-bys for us. I'm always willing to loan them out with attribution. I'm working on a recipe section at my website.

Great idea! I had actually thought of the forum cookbook idea too. I will have to think about what recipes would be good and try them out when I'm in STJ.
Do you want drink recipes too?

Thanks for all the great feedback so far. And also for your emails.

Keep em coming...

I have a format that I can forward to you guys for the recipes. It offers up space for your name (or alias), name of the recipe (be creative), story you'd like to share, and of course the recipe itself. I'll keep you posted!

Hi Jan,

I'm not sure you need a bareboat section, on most boats you are able to cook anything that can be cooked in a villa.

I have a few ideas, I'll send them along.
