Pool required in May?

Post by Armchair Traveler »

Hi All,

Hoping desperately to get back to St. John in May. I have only gone in January, stayed on the Coral Bay side, and we had a place that did not have a pool and we were fine. Is it so much hotter in May that we will be really uncomfortable without one? Thanks!

we stayed in Coral Bay in mid May '07. Villa didn't have a pool or A/C. The breezes were not that great, but I guess it depends on where exactly your villa is.

I have to say that I was pretty uncomfortable at night. A little too hot and humid for my taste.

We were there last May & are going again this May. We had a pool & were glad we did....It was definately hot enough for one; not "Texas 100 degree" hot but felt SO good when we were in there!

See... there are some that would say that a pool is just a bonus.

But for me it's a significant part of a summer visit to STJ.

Our rotuine goes a little somethin' like this:

Wake up with the sun
Eat breakfast
Head straight to beach
Stay at beach until we get hungry
Grab lunch at Skinny legs, Vies, Island Blues, Tourist trap
Head back to villa for pool time
Shower
get dressed for dinner
dinner out somewhere
repeat
*Another fine scatterbrained production

A pool is a requirement for me any month of the year. We love our afternoon pool chill-out.

Beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon so refreshing!

I'm on board with the pool requirement. MY vacation happyness 8) is standing in the pool at sunset watching the last rays as the sun goes down over St. Thomas in the distance... then count the seconds until the first no-see-um finds me. Then think about what to eat for dinner. I wish that was tonight's agenda!

We've been 2 times in May. A pool was not important to us at all. We've had a pool at home for the last 18 years, and just removed it last year. However a a/c was a must. No A/c the first year and I thought I just might die. A/c the next year was great. Plus the second year, it just wasn't as hot outside. View is a must. But not pool.

You hit my 2nd must have. A/C in bedrooms! You might not need it but I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

But I am high maintenance just ask my hubby.

I'm with deejayjay. Pool is nice but not needed. A/C in bedrooms, view and general condition of villa are all more important to me.

Just depends on your daily routine. I'm gone most days at beach, lunch or looking around from, say, 10:30 to 3:30 or 4:00. Then I come back for nap and shower time. Then its out for dinner. If you spend more time at home I'm sure its more important.

We need a pool( where else to have cocktails in the afternoon???) and AC in the bedrooms. Two must haves for us. A hot tub is also nice for those cool Coral Bay moonlit nights...
